PURPOSE: 
The Assistant Director of Anatomic Pathology will report directly to the Director of Anatomic Pathology. This position will oversee roughly half of the anatomic pathologists, and will be responsible for monitoring, training and mentor Pathologists in their current assignments, as well as contributing to the career development for those interested in successive career positions in an impactful and positive way. The Anatomic Pathologist in this position also interprets biopsies and generates reports, making useful clinic-pathologic correlations.
This position is a remote role.

 
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Coach, train and mentor Pathologists for current assignments and development into successive career positions.
  • Conduct and complete annual performance reviews within the established time frame.
  • Periodically monitor performance metrics, including report content.
  • Assist with Pathologist engagement initiatives.
  • Facilitate regular pathology specialty rounds, CE/ journal club, associate meetings and professional enrichment.
    • The East Assistant Director is responsible for the Pet Cancer team (oncology specialty group), the Ocular Pathology team, the Hepatopathology team and others as needed.
    • The West Assistant Director is responsible for the Dermatopathology team, and the oral team and others as needed.
    • The East and West Assistant Directors are each responsible for organizing 2 speakers per year for the monthly Continuing Education rounds shared with Clinical Pathology and the Consultants. 
  • Develop retention strategies with People & Organization in order to retain and develop qualified associates.
  • Function as a role model for all Antech associates by displaying a positive attitude and constantly adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and a professional code of ethics.
  • Provide a safe environment for associates, encouraging associates to contribute to problem solving and promoting best practices.
  • On occasion, liaison with other divisions such as LabC, Customer Service, Sales, Consultants, Clinical Pathology and Clients with respect to Anatomic Pathologist concerns, to include direct client communication.
  • On occasion, to include some weekends, monitor daily case numbers and overages as needed.
  • On occasion, to include some weekends, assist with short-term scheduling changes.
  • As needed, assume project/program responsibilities inside/outside the Anatomic division that help establish Antech as an organization of excellence.
  • Approximately 75% of the East Assistant Director pathologist’s efforts will go towards rendering pathology reports, including morphologic diagnosis / microscopic findings, including specific information and using prescribed formatting where indicated, within prescribed turn-around time.
    • 375 cases per pay period
    • 5 days a week, Monday through Friday schedule, excluding shared weekend administrative coverage
    • EXAMPLE: M= 30 cases; T= 49 cases; W= 30 cases; R= 49 cases; F= 30 cases
  • Consult with peers, clients, Antech associates, and other medical/ scientific professionals via phone, email, digital pathology software, and Internet based video conferencing.
  • Participate in Antech Anatomic Pathology conferences, seminars, and rounds using Internet based video conferencing.
  • Assist lab personnel in conjunction with specimen processing as needed.
  • Participate in per-to-peer digital pathology consultations.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay current on new knowledge, methods, and standards as pertains to diagnostic veterinary pathology.
  • Participate in in-house Quality Control.
  • Contribute to the training of veterinary students, interns, and residents as indicated.
  • Complete other duties as assigned, relevant to Anatomic Pathology, Antech, and Mars Veterinary Health.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent
  • ACVP Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology
  • 5+ years managerial experience preferred
  • 5+ years experience in veterinary pathology

  • Ability to work independently, including remotely, using various platforms to stay connected with colleagues, clients and management
  • Fluency in English
