The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working to improve environmental sustainability, human health, and resilience in the built environment through its programs and rating systems including LEED. USGBC’s Project Management Office (PMO) is going through an expansion phase and is seeking a Project Manager to be a champion of project management governance within the organization to foster adoption and drive operational excellence in project management.
They would be responsible for overseeing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet all scope, timeline, and budget requirements by managing project or program schedules, budgets, resources, and project deliverables. Delivers business results by ensuring that project management best practices are being met. Monitors teams to make sure the project goals and objectives are being kept. Knowledge of larger landscapes without neglecting granular details while tracking project health, staying alert for risk, and resolving issues as they arise. Maintains standards and monitors project scope and quality requirements, He or she will support the project management governance framework.
Reporting directly to the Director of Project Management, this position is responsible for day-to-day project management activities and working collaboratively with all stakeholders within the organization to achieve successful project execution, while driving continuous process improvements and operational efficiencies.
This position offers the flexibility to be remote, based within the United States. If located in the Washington DC area, one (1) day on-site is required.
Specific Responsibilities:
Project Management Governance
- Define and document project scope, objectives, and desired outcome for both technology driven, and non-technology driven projects.
- Set and manage stakeholder expectations, both internally and externally
- Facilitate resource requirements definition for project tasks
- Provide project updates to stakeholders as per demand and requirement
- Ensure project delivery is on time, as per scope and within the allocated budget
- Track project performance periodically to ensure both short-term and long-term goals are met
- Create and maintain detailed project documentation
- Undertake risk management to minimize potential risks
- Manage interdepartmental coordination to ensure smooth project execution between all stakeholders.
- Support business performance metrics reporting to ensure successful execution of projects/programs, attainment of intended return on investment (ROI) benefits ( maximization of customer satisfaction, profitability, and market share).
- Ensure quality standards through testing and validation activities.
Strategic Alignment
- Ensure project objectives are aligned with company goals and are understood by all stakeholders
- Ensure project and its respective stakeholders represent the organization’s global presence
- Ensure that all project deliverables meet the USGBC quality standards
Process Improvement
- Be a change maker for project management governance within the organization
- Advocate for the PMO vision, strategy, annual goals, and success factors to the USGBC organization
- Encourage innovation and diverse perspective throughout the project life cycle
- Be aware of industry best practices, techniques, and standards, and encourage PMO utilization of them to foster effective project execution
Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in project management
- 5+ years of experience supporting information technology teams (IT) projects and familiarity with software development practices (Waterfall, Hybrid and Agile)
- 5+ years of experience with performance metrics for project management
- Proficiency in stakeholder management and managing relationships with project team, management, and vendors/ partners, to drive effective communication and alignment
Education & Training Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business management or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP) active certification or equivalent (Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional from the International Project Management Association (IPMA), PRINCE2 Foundation (PRINCE2 Practioner), and Certified Project Manager (CPM). Will consider candidate who is in the process of obtaining their certification
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 1+ years of experience working in a Project Management Office Environment, or similar team/department
- Knowledge of related software development and project management tools like JIRA, Smartsheet, Resource management tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with both technical and nontechnical audiences
- Customer focused with a commitment to quality
- Strong problem solving and time management skills; high attention to detail
- Supports innovation and understands change and the need for continuous process improvement
Details:
