Operations Lead - UK Remote

About bigspark

Bigspark is a UK based consultancy delivering next level data platforms and solutions with a focus on exciting technologies including Apache Spark, Apache Kafka and working on projects within Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Streaming and Data Science. We are looking for an Operations Lead to join our team on a permanent basis in a remote, work from home capacity. We provide the backbone for modern analytics to our clients through expertise in DevOps, distributed computing, machine learning and adoption of proven open-source projects.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Operations Lead to join our team at bigspark. In this key role, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and driving the successful execution of consulting projects.

Key Responsibilities

Process Management and Growth Planning

  • Streamlining workflows and optimising processes to improve overall efficiency
  • Regularly assessing and refining operational processes to maintain competitiveness and performance.
  • Establishing processes that can accommodate business growth without sacrificing quality or incurring significant additional costs 
  • Collecting, analysing, and utilising operational data to inform strategic decision-making and improve operational performance

Resource Management

  • Efficiently managing bench resource and resource operationality, ensuring staff on the bench have a shared community and continued responsibility towards the business
  • Monitoring holiday cover and considering backfill opportunities to maximise revenue
  • Co-ordinating offshore colleague deployment, ensuring staff know where they are assigned

Project and Change Management

  • Leading efforts during organisational transitions or restructuring, supporting the Head of Delivery in continuously improving operational processes to create efficiencies
  • Working alongside the Finance department to ensure that our billability aligns with our operational efforts 
  • Overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of various internal projects within the company - utilising an agile mindset.
  • Identifying potential operational risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them. 

Contract Management

  • Drive collaborative partnerships with client stakeholders, internal teams and external suppliers
  • Management of the end-to-end SoW process ensuring they are appropriately signed and stored, and new clients are onboarded in a timely manner 
  • Management and administration of general supplier responsibilities such as the use of workforce management systems, ideally SAP Fieldglass 
  • Monitoring SoW budget use (over/under burn) and liaising with the appropriate colleagues to ensure budget utilisation
  • Liaising with the Finance department regarding timesheet/invoicing alignment, anomalies and revenue forecasting 
  • Overseeing relationships with operational tooling external service providers and ensuring they align with the company's operational needs

    Compliance and Risk Management

    • Holding the business accountable to ongoing compliance and regulatory requirements, such as accreditations and ISO certification
    • Maintaining up to date company policies and procedures related to compliance and risk
