The Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing both the procurement of materials and the planning of production activities. This role involves purchasing raw materials, components, and other products from suppliers and interfacing with production facilities (CMOs, 1st party manufacturing, Warehouses) to ensure an efficient supply chain.  

 Responsibilities:

  • Place purchase orders based on MRP, production schedules, inventory levels, and demand forecasts
  • Track and expedite POs to ensure on-time delivery of materials, avoiding production delays
  • Resolve any issues with orders, including late deliveries, quality problems, or price discrepancies
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Monitor purchase prices to ensure competitiveness and minimize cost increases; evaluate opportunities for cost reductions
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, and price competitiveness
  • Implement corrective actions with suppliers to improve performance and ensure reliable supply
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure production schedules are met on time
  • Support 1st party manufacturing and CMO material requirements to achieve production schedules
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure optimal stock levels
  • Implement inventory replenishment strategies to avoid shortages or excess stock
  • Supports regular cycle counts and physical inventories to ensure inventory accuracy  
  • Communicate supply chain constraints, material shortages, or production delays to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Maintain open communication with suppliers to manage lead times, forecast material needs, and address any potential disruptions in the supply chain
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as purchase price variance, inventory turnover, on-time delivery rates, and production schedule adherence
  • Manage and maintain system master data for purchased goods 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field 
  • 2+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, or Planning  
  • Knowledge of procurement and inventory management software
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in data analysis tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with industry trends and best practices in supply chain management
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

All remote positions and those not located in our Berkeley facility are paid based on National Benchmark data.  Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
