PURPOSE OF JOB: 

Anatomic Pathologists in this position interpret histologic specimens, including but not limited to: surgical biopsies; tissues collected at autopsy/ necropsy; histochemical and immunohistochemical stains. Pathologists synthesize available information to generate accurate reports in a timely manner, making clinicopathologic correlations useful to clinicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Render pathology reports including morphologic diagnosis / microscopic findings, including specific information and using prescribed formatting where indicated, within prescribed turn-around time (same day as assignment, midnight local time zone).

  • Engage with peers, client-colleagues, Antech associates, and other medical/ scientific professionals via phone, email, digital pathology software, and Internet based video conferencing

  • Participate in Antech Anatomic Pathology conferences, seminars, and rounds using Internet based video conferencing

  • Assist lab personnel with specimen processing as needed

  • Participate in peer-to-peer digital pathology consultations (“Assists”)

  • Maintain a valid veterinary license to practice

  • Enroll in continuing education to stay current on new knowledge, methods, and standards as pertains to diagnostic veterinary pathology

  • Support in-house Quality Control

  • Contribute to the training of veterinary students, interns, and residents as indicated

  • Complete other duties as assigned, relevant to Anatomic Pathology, Antech, and Mars Veterinary Health
     

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent

  • Diplomat of American College of Veterinary Pathology or Diplomat of European College of Veterinary Pathology – Anatomic

  • Top-notch diagnostic, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Passion for helping people and animals

  • Strong organization skills, including effective time management

  • Ability to prioritize tasks

  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients and management

  • Ability to work independently, including remotely, using various platforms to stay connected with colleagues, clients and management

  • Fluency in English

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Extensive sitting and computer use, including audio devices (phones, microphones for dictation, etc.)

  • Sufficient hearing and verbal ability to communicate effectively using multiple platforms including via video, phone, and in person

  • Occasional microscope use

  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers

  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch

  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 15 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required including close vision

  • Extended hours may be needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
 

The employee will primarily work in a typical office environment including use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent. Some work in the laboratory with formalin fixed and fresh tissue specimens with OSHA approved vented hoods may be needed on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee will be required to use a computer, digital slides, glass slides, software, email, phone, voice recognition software, spreadsheets, data base management, and the Internet including video conferencing using a camera. The employee may be required to use a fax and copy machine.
