Job description

About Translated

Translated is a leading company in AI-enabled translation services. We are on a mission to allow everyone to understand and be understood in their own language.

Our success stems from a unique blend of the world’s #1 adaptive neural machine translation technology (IDC MarketScape 2022), the largest network of vetted, native-speaking professional translators, and top-ranked AI-enabled text, audio, and video translation tools (Gartner, 2022).

By leveraging a seamless symbiosis of artificial intelligence and human creativity, we design custom localization projects that were previously unthinkable, helping more than 280,000 clients grow their businesses worldwide.

We are looking for a Japanese Localization Quality Manager.

We are seeking a mother-tongue Japanese Quality Manager for our Enterprise clients who will own quality on translations into Japanese across multiple clients, working with translators and directly with our top clients in the digital space.

We are offering a contractor role, fully remote from Japan.

As Japanese Quality Manager you will be responsible for defining and managing all quality-related activities for one or more clients, ensuring the highest level of quality in deliverables. This includes defining quality requirements, selecting and monitoring linguists including hands-on reviews of linguist tests during recruitment, organizing and executing 1:1 and group linguist training activities, reporting on quality internally and to clients as well as handling quality feedback and escalations from clients. You will act as the main POC with our client’s stakeholders in Japan in order to align on their expectations and meet their quality requirements, whilst building strong working relationships and trust. QMs work closely with Community Managers (CMs) to recruit the best resources and negotiate rates, as well as with Data Scientists to report on and improve MT engine behaviour. They may also collaborate with the HQM to improve efficiency, quality at scale for all clients, and profitability for the company. A significant aspect of your role will involve utilizing a data-driven approach to define strategies and activities aimed at improving quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define quality requirements and frameworks for assigned clients.
  • Develop client or service-specific training and testing programs specifically for the Japanese language. Collaborate with CMs to recruit the best resources and negotiate rates.
  • Manage linguistic assets for clients, including machine translation, translation memory, glossaries, and style guides.
  • Oversee teams of Japanese linguists, Language Experts and Language Leads for assigned clients, monitoring and improving linguists' performance to ensure consistent high-quality outcomes.
  • Analyze quality by employing a data-driven approach to define and measure quality metrics, leading to actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary QM point of contact with clients in Japan, attending meetings and presenting quality data and improvement plans during business reviews.
  • Collaborate with other departments (PgM, PjM, AM) to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow between teams for assigned clients.

Requirements

  • Mother tongue Japanese speaker.
  • 3+ years experience in Localization and a strong understanding of Localization Quality Management.
  • Excellent knowledge of English.
  • Excellent computer and web skills required.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to define improvement plans based on data analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent fluid intelligence and high work ethic.
  • Preferred working experience or University studies in business, management or translation.
