Job description

The Vendor Risk Manager is responsible for managing and mitigating risks associated with third-party vendors to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. This role involves a deep understanding of the third-party vendor risk landscape, industry best practices and the ability to collaborate effectively with business owners and vendor account representatives

Job Responsibilities

  • Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on potential and existing vendors to assess risks.
  • Risk Assessments: Perform regular risk assessments and audits to ensure vendors comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Continuously monitor vendor performance and report on risk metrics.
  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain vendor risk management policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sourcing managers, business units, and other stakeholders to manage vendor relationships and mitigate risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or industry-specific requirements.
  • Incident Management: Handle vendor-related incidents and work on remediation plans to address any issues.
  • Understand industry trends and evolving technology to help team proactively identify issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of services, and utilize emerging opportunities
  • Provide input to vendor selection and build ongoing vendor relationships
  • Maintain and develop supplier relationships (trade shows, supplier meetings, conferences, etc.)
  • Understand and support short-term and long-range planning and budget development of the company to support strategic business goals
  • Support established vendor governance program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives
  • Adhere to Sourcing policies and standard processes while ensuring compliance within the department
  • Seek to continuously improve productivity and efficiency of processes throughout the VRM organization
  • Support forecasts for future renewals, demand needs, and expansion of services in a timely fashion for assigned category(s) based upon vendor lead-time
  • Manage and mentor direct reports encouraging professional growth & development
  • Oversee staffing/recruiting/training /coaching of direct reports including performance reviews

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required        
  • 6+ years’ experience in either VRM, Sourcing or  Procurement industry
  • 4+ or more years’ experience category and contract management for outsourcing services or procurement commodity purchases
  • Preferred in people leadership experience in VRM, Sourcing or Procurement
  • Cross functional experience at the interfaces of IT/technology/operations/finance/sales/marketing/legal/HR/Real estate & facilities, and the lines of business
  • Address escalations/disputes between cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers and/or engage leadership as appropriate
  • Commitment to supplier diversity
  • Ability to manage projects and accountable to ensure successful delivery (on time, within budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria)
  • Good knowledge of the legal terminology and language related to third-party agreements and contracts
  • Application of sourcing and supplier industry concepts for assigned scope of responsibility
  • Advanced skills and working knowledge of MS Office and MS Excel
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and risk management frameworks is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact with and present to the  mid-levels of executive leadership within Assurant and the supplier
  • Must ensure compliance at all times with company business policies and procedures
  • May have responsibilities with a matrixed global team of outsourced providers and an analyst team offshore (example – India)   
  • Knowledge of Third Party Risk Management concepts and best practices.
  • Experience with Monday.com, ServiceNow and Apttus preferred

Pay Range:

$86,000.00 - $143,700.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
