Job description

Overview:

DNI is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing various payroll-related tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal regulations, for all seven companies supported under DNI.

Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Journal Entries: Generate and enter semi-monthly payroll journal entries into the accounting system.
  • Insurance Benefit Invoices: Audit insurance benefit invoices by cross-referencing expenses to employee deductions.
  • Balance Sheet and Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet and bank accounts to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Tax Agency Accounts: Apply for tax agency accounts, ensuring all necessary documentation is submitted and maintained. Provide tax information to our third party payroll provider and resolve payroll return discrepancies.
  • Internal Audits: Conduct internal audits of payroll records to identify inconsistencies and implement corrective actions.
  • 941 Reports: Reconcile 941 reports quarterly to ensure accurate reporting of payroll taxes.
  • 401k Census: Populate and reconcile annual 401k Census.
  • External Audits: Provide support during external financial audits by pulling documentation and performing reconciliations.

Equipment/Systems:

This position requires a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel).

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting
  • Three years payroll experience or a similar role
  • JAMIS experience a plus

Supervisory Responsibility- There is no supervisory responsibility in this position.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a hybrid work from home/office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role that primarily requires sitting at a desk in front of a computer for long periods of time.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
