Job description

Position Details: Full Time, Permanent 
Starting Salary: $81,300 per annum, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary will be commensurate with individual education and experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Hybrid/Remote within Canada
Closing Deadline: February 16, 2025 (11:59PM EST)

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with DUC operations staff on the development of policies for acquisition, disposition, and stewardship of projects.
  • Works closely with DUC operations staff to ensure stewardship of projects under agreement with private landowners.
  • Develop recommendations for revenue generation from our land base that does not compromise ecological integrity.
  • Work with Conservation leadership to evaluate new business strategies and opportunities for DUC’s lands program in support of land conservation initiatives across Canada.
  • Work with Conservation leadership to increase financial strength to elevate DUC’s profile in land conservation and to maximize leverage of public revenue.
  • Provide input on strategic planning initiatives to ensure alignment with DUC national objectives, priorities, and financial obligations. 
  • Oversee processes and documentation to support company safety standards, asset management, infrastructure inspection and compliance, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure DUC’s land policies and approaches are aligned with current best practices and standards across the provinces and territories. 
  • Provide input on DUC’s land protection and stewardship approaches, including new conservation easement language, conservation easement violation resolutions, etc.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree with a strong conservation or natural resources focus.
  • 5 years relevant experience focused on conservation/land management program delivery, project management and/or data systems. 
  • A background in science, agriculture, natural resources and/or land management.
  • Knowledge of Canadian conservation and land management issues and challenges.
  • A background in revenue generation and program planning.
  • Experience with lands transactions and land financing mechanisms.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel nationally and internationally (as required)

Assets

  • Knowledge of Indigenous-led conservation initiatives in Canada.
  • Knowledge of the Quebec legal system, Quebec land acquisition processes
  • Bilingual in English/French.
