Accountabilities:

  • Providing legal drafting skills with a view to successful execution of contracts, including leases and franchise documentation.    

  • Manage legal strategies to align with the company’s business objectives, ensuring proactive risk identification and mitigation.

  • Plan and coordinate initiatives to assess and address legal risks, safeguarding the company’s interests.

  • Schedule and oversee contract negotiations, including vendor, lease, and franchise agreements, to support optimized business operations.

  • Delegate responsibilities to ensure compliance with corporate law, real estate, commercial transactions, and intellectual property regulations.

  • Monitor litigation matters, coordinating with external counsel to manage risks and control costs.

  • Direct the development of policies and practices related to corporate governance and shareholder matters.

  • Ensure legal support for real estate transactions, including leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, and property management.

  • Maintain effective collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders to address ongoing legal needs and ensure operational efficiency.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited Canadian law school.

  • Active membership in the Law Society of Ontario.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience practicing in corporate law.

  • Full bilingual proficiency in English and French.

  • Industry experience in retail/franchise, consumer goods, supply chain, or e-commerce.

  • Experience overseeing litigation matters and working with external counsel.

  • Exceptional legal drafting skills, with the ability to create clear and enforceable contracts, including leases and franchise documentation.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills to coordinate legal initiatives and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Excellent negotiation skills to oversee and drive successful contract outcomes.

  • Ability to delegate and manage responsibilities effectively to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and direct legal assistants or junior team members in day-to-day activities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess legal risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Assets You May Have:

  • Degree in Commerce

  • Degree in Civil Law

  • Called to the bar of the Province of Quebec
