POSITION SUMMARY
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Engineer plays a crucial role as a key member of Alterra’s Enterprise IT Infrastructure organization aligned to the Capital Development team, and is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the implementation of telecommunications and data communications infrastructure for ski resort expansion, development, and acquisition integration projects across North America. This role involves working closely with architects, engineers, project managers, contractors, IT infrastructure operations teams, and local resort teams to ensure seamless interconnectivity, serviceability, long-term viability of data communications infrastructure, while ensuring compliance with established IT and regulatory standards. The ICT Engineer brings experience in commercial construction together with IT networking best practices to collaboratively establish, document, and implement repeatable, extensible, and cost efficient design patterns.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ICT, preferably with relevant certifications and experience such as Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), and relevant experience in large campus and outdoor venue construction and improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
General Responsibilities
Comprehensive Infrastructure Design:
Design resort-wide telecommunications and data infrastructure as part of new construction and acquisition integration projects, ensuring robust connectivity between various facilities/buildings and across large outdoor spaces through thoughtful planning of fiber pathways, MDFs/IDFs, microwave wireless, and requisite power and cooling requirements including UPS, generator, and computer room cooling necessary to support critical networking and server systems.
Interconnectivity:
Develop physical network designs that support Enterprise IT Network standards for corporate local- and wide-area networking, wireless deployments, guest internet, IoT, security and surveillance systems, and other communications technologies across the resort.
Outdoor and Harsh Environment Considerations:
Budget Creation and Cost Estimating
Provide conceptual scope budgets and cost estimating as it relates to early master planning
Coordinate with and support the Development Operations team at various levels of design phase estimating as it relates to IT Infrastructure needs.
Coordinate with local dry utility and IT municipal agencies to provide necessary Will Serve letters, schedule feedback and other required planning support for the development and development operations teams.
Collaboration with Capital Development, Architects, Engineers, and Planners:
Integrate data communications infrastructure requirements, design, and implementation planning into the overall master plan of the resort project.
Work with civil and electrical engineers to align telecommunications infrastructure with the resort’s electrical and structural systems.
Prioritize, endorse, and propagate consistent standards in engineering and construction planning with third party design firms, general construction and subcontractor companies in relation to data communications infrastructure.
Optimize space utilization and ensure the infrastructure supports the resort plan’s functional and aesthetic requirements.
Oversight of Contractors and Construction Teams:
Develop and manage contractor relationships for low voltage, structured cabling, audio/video, building automation, and other data communications infrastructure, including collaboration with the project team on bids, proposals, and selection.
Oversee the installation of telecommunications systems, ensuring implementation follows design specifications. Address any issues that arise during construction.
Collaborate closely and regularly with local resort teams as necessary to coordinate access, manage business impact of construction in process, and otherwise ensure minimal disruption during data communication infrastructure construction.
Project Management:
Actively participate in OAC meetings and collaborate with project team on planning, design reviews, submittals, and provide regular updates on construction.
Collaborate with project managers to ensure telecommunications aspects are completed on time and within budget, and derisk or eliminate change orders.
Regulatory Compliance:
Qualifications:
Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification
Minimum 2 years direct field experience following certification as BICSI TECH, RTPM, DCDC, or OSP.
OR
7 to 10 years of proven experience in designing and implementing data communications infrastructure for large-scale projects such as large public venue, resort or college campus buildout, or data center commissioning.
3+ years of experience planning and implementing datacom technology infrastructure as part of commercial construction and development projects.
Expert level knowledge in Information and Communications Technology.
Strong understanding of network design, structured cabling systems, and data centers.
AND
Experience with outdoor and harsh environment telecommunications solutions.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with various stakeholders.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and experience working with governing bodies.
Proficiency using ArcGIS, Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience in ski resort projects or similar large-scale outdoor projects with significant outside plant focus.
Experience in integrating systems architecture for mergers and acquisitions.
Experience planning and overseeing installation and integration of audio/video, climate control, lighting, sound masking, and access control systems.
Familiarity with environmental and land use regulations/easements related to telecommunications infrastructure.
Strong Familiarity with OSI layer 2-4 network architectures
IP Networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or similar
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.
Denver area base salary range: $100,000 - $140,000 per year
