The Iron Chef team is dedicated to empowering Zillow Partner Agents (ZPAs) with actionable insights derived from data and AI technologies. Their mission focuses on identifying Zillow customers who are highly likely to buy, sell, or rent, as well as those who have shown significant engagement with properties. The team provides detailed buyer activity metrics, including views, saves, saved searches, and 3D tours.
About the role
A Senior Software Engineer (Big Data) in the Iron Chef team at Zillow will be responsible for designing, building, implementing, and supporting data pipelines and products to serve machine learning (ML) and analytical use cases. The role involves collaborating with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build high-quality datasets and data products that support Zillow Partner Agents. In this high-impact role, you will also focus on ensuring data quality, monitoring, and automation in data engineering processes.
As a member of this team, you will:
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data scientists and analysts on their endeavor to build, transform, and derive value from high quality datasets.
- Build self-service tools and platforms that strive to tackle the challenges faced by both data producers and consumers.
- Contribute to common infrastructure that power these tools.
- Research and pioneer the adoption of new technologies within Zillow
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.
In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $158,200.00 - $252,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
Who you are
- 5+ years of Software development experience with high proficiency in Python, Java, Scala or another language
- You have strong opinions about what makes a tool, API, or platform phenomenal and love using your creativity to make them even better!
- Experience with containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Analytical tools like Tableau, Superset, Mode Analytics
- Must have SQL knowledge
- Must have thorough knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Must have prior experience working with customers to understand and capture requirements.
- Experience building highly scalable and reliable data pipelines using technologies like Spark, Hive, Trino/Presto, Airflow, Kafka, Flink.
- (Plus) Familiarity with streaming technologies like Flink and Kafka.
- (Plus) Experience with Data Modeling.
- (Plus) Dev ops experience with production systems.
