About Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise
(SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.


SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

About the Role
The Senior Director, Resiliency, will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing a coordinated and uniformed SHP consultative response to local tragedies through the deployment of a Resiliency and Recovery strategy.  They will work closely with the VP, Strategic Programs & Delivery to establish resiliency standards and implement those across a range of program and operational portfolios to inform content development, partnership management, crisis response, and intervention support. The Senior Director will serve as a subject matter expert in behavioral support, mental health, resiliency, recovery, and crisis response, with a focus on school and other educational environments. 

The Senior Director, Resiliency, will report to the Chief Program Officer and will work across departments on an as-needed basis. 


Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This role will require up to 25% travel on an as-needed basis. 


Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
Strategy Development & Execution  
  • Establish and oversee an organizational approach for resiliency and recovery to support new and existing partners in response to local acts of violence that affect the well-being of students and the adults who support them. 
  • Develop operational processes that embed this strategy within existing team structures including but not limited to: Partner Success, the National Crisis Center, Curriculum & Content, Implementation (training), Curriculum & Content, and Marketing/Communications.  
  • Support the Vice President, Strategic Programs & Delivery in expanding SHP student programs related to youth suicide prevention and intervention services, as needed.  
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Foundation and Action Fund, supporting organizational initiatives focused on behavioral health, mental health, school safety, trauma-informed practices, and crisis response support.  
Content Development  
  • Create supporting resources including professional development programs, discussion guides, and implementation playbooks, to integrate trauma-informed approaches into direct service practices and promote resilience in individuals and communities following a tragedy.
  • Under the guidance of the Vice President, Strategic Programs & Delivery, develop resources and initiatives focused on youth suicide prevention, as well as other emotional well-being and behavioral health topics.
Professional Development & Consultation  
  • Provide consultative support to communities following a tragedy including but not limited to helping develop grant funding applications, establishing local Resiliency Initiatives and Centers, and facilitating support for stakeholders, peers, and organizations. 
  • Support the implementation of place-based learning initiatives focused on the integration of behavioral health, mental health, crisis response, and youth suicide prevention. 
  • Lead parent and caregiver education forums and write blogs to promote awareness of effective prevention strategies. 
  • Represent SHP at conferences and events focused on grief, trauma, mental health, behavioral health, and school safety as needed.  
Desired Skills and Experience
  • A master's degree and/or practical experience in Developmental Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. 
  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience in educational and/or therapeutic environments. 
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding effective, efficient, and innovative solutions. 
  • Skilled at presenting and adapting information and research in various formats (written, electronic, oral) for diverse audiences. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and make informed decisions with a high degree of responsibility. 
  • Proactive in identifying challenges and implementing solutions. 
  • Strong project management abilities, capable of managing tasks and meeting deadlines. 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and excellent proofreading skills. 
  • Experience in program development and/or change management is a plus. 
  • A commitment to SHP's vision and values.
    Performs other duties as required.
Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $110,000-$120,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
