The Social Media Manager will join AIUSA’s Marketing and Communications team, leading our social media strategy and managing the day-to-day operations across our channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Linkedin)).
The Social Media Manager's primary focus will be on developing and implementing a content and engagement social media strategy that grows and diversifies our audiences by leveraging AIUSA’s current channels (X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn), and identifying and launching new channels. On a daily basis, the Social Media Manager will work on long-term projects and rapid/responsive content that helps advance AIUSA’s programmatic and organizational goals.
The ideal candidate is an experienced social media manager who will transform our platforms into a place where members, supporters, activists, partners, news media and experts come to learn about and engage with our timely analysis of human rights. You should be a hands-on content creator and publisher working on tried-and-true, and experimental tactics. You will occasionally be the messenger of video content.
The Social Media Manager will report to the National Director of Marketing and Communications and collaborate on social media production and implementation with the members of the Marcomms Team, AIUSA’s digital advocacy team, freelance support, and external agencies. This is an 18-Month Fixed Term role.
Essential Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy and Management (40%)
Work with the National Director of Marketing and Communications to create social media SMART goals
Consistently work with campaign and project teams to create social media strategies and output plans for pushes
Create and curate timely supporter-first content with precision across our channels that speaks to our audience and grows our social media engagement
Collaborate with Marcomms team members to implement our social media video strategy across channels (Facebook, IG, YouTube, and others)
Share community management tasks with other Marcomms staff
Content Creation and Curation (50%)
Create and update social media post copy, graphics, face-to-camera videos, and scripts for staff to make face-to-camera videos using Canva, Capcut, Kapwing, and/or other relevant apps
Collaborate with Senior Manager of Creative and Brand on social media graphic design and video planning and editing
Help attract new, specific audiences to our channels with engagement, digital campaigning, and cultural organizing tactics
Consistently stay appraised of human rights news, social trends, and memes
Create responsive and rapid response content, sometimes on sensitive issues, inside and outside of specific AIUSA campaigns at the speed of the news cycle to increase the visibility of the AIUSA brand, metanarrative, and/or campaigns
Social data and analytics (10%)
Work with AIUSA vendors to synthesize social media analytics across platforms and determine areas for growth, identify best-performing content weekly, and data-driven when leaning into new opportunities for engagement
Report out social performance to relevant AIUSA staff as needed
Participate in meetings, planning periods, and retreats
Help create efficient approval systems to navigate AIUSA’s brand management ins and outs

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of, social justice issues. Direct human rights work is a bonus but not required
Excellent copy-writing skills
Solid understanding of how to create engaging content audiences want to see with an eye to bringing new supporters into the AIUSA brand and top-of-the-funnel programming
Ability to quickly generate creative content creation ideas
Ability to advise on social media strategy and best practices various social media competencies and be propositional if something may be better suited for an alternative platform or audience.
Ability to create consistent entry points into our brand for new audiences by embedding human rights messaging and the AIUSA human rights metanarrative into content based around the news and mainstream conversations
Experience translating complex campaign concepts into simple, accessible, and story-first content
Can balance competing priorities in a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment
Experience creating content that is IDEA focused, including online accessibility.
Can communicate needs, wants, and capacity clearly and come up with creative solutions around competing priorities to ensure a sustainable workload and work-life balance
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
Education and Experience
BA/BS and at least 7 years relevant experience or MA/MS and 5 years relevant experience and/or sufficient relevant work experience
Experience in developing and executing content (specifically graphic design and social media video production); executing social media strategy with a growth goal; managing day-to-day cross-channel social media operations; and using data analysis to guide execution and experimentation
Experience with Asana (or other project management tools), Canva, Capcut, Kapwing, ChatGPT and other relevant content editing apps
Demonstrated experience working in medium to large advocacy organizations with 4-6 simultaneous campaigns
Experience managing content creators and vendors
Proven experience creating content for the age demographic of 18–24 year-olds and/or 25–34 year-olds
Stays current with industry trends and understands best practices for social media platforms such as Facebook, X, and Instagram
This role also requires you to work on Eastern Standard Time
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer

Some travel as needed
Some weeknight and weekend work may be required
