ABOUT ZENOBE

Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.

We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.

Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking to recruit a Business Development Director with experience in the EV or Leasing market to grow the EV business in Germany.

The candidate will ideally bring a good understanding of the transportation sector with a focus on depot-based commercial fleets such as buses, a proven experience of working with senior customers and have the capability and credibility to originate, develop and finance projects.

The candidate will be able to oversee the day-to-day aspects of the project development and financing process from origination to contract closure. The role integrates with team members in finance, legal, commercial, engineering and construction to put together complex, high-value contracts and solutions.

The role includes liaising with clients and external stakeholders and will be responsible for the growth from a business and headcount perspective. It will be a requirement to hit the ground running and to be comfortable operating at a rapid pace at times with high levels of ambiguity and the pressure of deadlines.

A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY

  • Leading origination and development of EV projects
  • Leading origination and developing customer relationships with customers such as bus operators, other fleet operators, and municipal transit authorities,
  • Developing compelling propositions and competitive bids
  • Structuring contracts
  • Sponsoring high quality internal InvestCom papers
  • Developing strategic partnerships with vehicle OEMs, charger manufacturers and technical consultants, regulators, utilities, banks to support the scaling of the business
  • Managing a business development team to build financial models
  • Supporting day-to-day business case development activities of projects until the closure of the deals
  • Developing sales and marketing materials, speaking at and attending conferences as appropriate
  • Being a public face of the firm for fleets helping manage client relationships
  • Leading, driving and mentoring a successful Sales function across Germany, ensuring individual and team targets are met in line with agreed objectives

Essential competencies:

  • Fluency in English and German
  • A proven leader and salesperson who is still driven to close deals and hit targets
  • High quality education (bachelor’s degree or masters) preferably in engineering or finance related
  • A genuine passion in clean energy and our social and environmental mission
  • Solid work experience (10+ years) in commercial / business development, preferably in the transport sector and with electrification experience
  • An existing network of customers in the bus/fleet space and credibility operating at a senior level
  • Strong commercial skills, comfortable with legal contracts, project development and financing
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting financial analysis and sales pitches
  • Strong organisation skills, team player and good attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills with growth mindset
  • Results oriented who is not scared of taking accountability
  • Ability to deliver results within budget
  • Ability to travel across Germany frequently
  • Desire to work in a fast moving, high pressure and entrepreneurial environment
