Job description

Overview:

Are you a strategic, data-driven marketer with a passion for books and community building? Epic Reads is more than just a brand—it’s a thriving network of book lovers, including librarians, bloggers, bookstagrammers, booktubers, and devoted readers who can’t get enough of great stories.

We’re looking for a Marketing Manager to lead engaging, data-driven email and SMS campaigns while driving loyalty programs that keep our community excited and connected. In this role, you’ll work closely with our DTC Brand and Product Management teams to ensure seamless execution of our communication strategy—delivering the right message, to the right readers, at the right time. This role will collaborate on copywriting efforts, providing creative direction, and shape campaign messaging to ensure brand voice consistency while driving engagement and conversion.

The ideal candidate is a creative, results-driven marketer with a strong background in email and SMS marketing, a growth mindset, and the ability to turn data into compelling consumer experiences. If you’re ready to make an impact, engage passionate readers, and bring stories to life through marketing, we’d love to have you on our team!

Responsibilities:
  • Execute and optimize email and SMS campaigns in collaboration with Brand and Publishing teams.
  • Partner with creative and content teams to request, refine, and develop copy for email, SMS, and other retention marketing efforts.
  • Provide feedback on copywriting, including subject lines, CTAs, and content optimizations to improve engagement and conversions.
  • Develop audience segmentation strategies to ensure targeted, personalized messaging.
  • Lead A/B testing initiatives, analyze results, and iterate for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor email deliverability and database health, addressing any issues impacting domain/IP reputation.
  • Grow and manage the email and SMS database, optimizing capture tactics (e.g., website pop-ups, quizzes).
  • Map out and refine lifecycle email flows (welcome series, winbacks, upsells) based on segmentation strategies.
  • Develop and launch a direct-to-consumer loyalty program in partnership with the Product Management team.
  • Provide regular performance reports, sharing key insights and recommendations with stakeholders.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in email/SMS marketing, retention strategies, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • 4+ years in digital marketing, with at least 1 year in lifecycle marketing (email, SMS, retention, loyalty) for an eCommerce business.
  • Proven ability to execute and optimize high-volume email/SMS campaigns that drive engagement and conversions.
  • Strong segmentation, automation, and personalization expertise to enhance customer journeys.
  • Hands-on experience with A/B testing, analytics, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working directly in ESPs (SailThru, Attentive a plus).
  • Shopify experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with copywriters and creative teams to refine messaging and design.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing loyalty programs and retention strategies.
  • Strong copywriting and messaging experience, with the ability to craft compelling, on-brand marketing content.
  • Basic HTML/CSS skills for email (a plus, but not required).
  • Knowledge of email compliance regulations (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, TCPA).

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) Required

Knowledge:

  • Customer segmentation and email/SMS best practices.
  • Direct-to-consumer eCommerce, retention marketing trends, and CRM technologies.
  • Email/SMS marketing regulations (CAN-SPAM, GDPR).

Skills:

  • Data-driven & results-oriented—analyzes metrics to refine strategy.
  • Creative problem solver—balances storytelling with conversion optimization.
  • Strong communicator & collaborator—works cross-functionally across teams.
  • Agile & adaptable—can pivot strategies as needed.
  • Detail-oriented & organized—ensures flawless execution.
  • Proficient in email/SMS best practices—provides strategic feedback on subject lines, copy, and campaign effectiveness.
