Duracell has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team developing innovative IoT solutions for battery monitoring applications. We are seeking a candidate with a strong tester mindset and passion for developing code that interacts with the real world. In this role, you will be responsible for developing features, test scripts, and test applications to validate our system platform, while also contributing to the enhancement of user experience and the development of algorithms and analytics for our IoT devices.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about testing, have a keen interest in real-world applications of embedded systems, and be excited about developing code that interacts with the physical environment.
This position will be remote to start, with location to the greater Atlanta, GA area at a later date.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop firmware features for embedded IoT applications, focusing on battery monitoring and sensor integration.
- Create and implement test scripts and applications to validate system platform functionality.
- Develop algorithms and analytics to interpret sensor data and provide meaningful insights about the device's environment.
- Optimize code for low-power operation in battery-operated hardware designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integrated and effective solutions.
- Contribute to the development of functionality that enhances user experience.
- Conduct system-level testing and validation of IoT solutions, analyzing performance metrics and addressing issues through iterative refinement.
- Implement and test various wireless communication protocols, primarily Wi-Fi and BLE.
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading hardware schematics and using common debugging tools.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks, effectively working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded firmware development.
- Strong proficiency in C programming language.
- Experience with test methodologies and a bias towards a tester mindset.
- Familiarity with IoT systems, data processing, and associated communication protocols.
- Solid understanding of embedded systems and IoT technologies.
- Experience in debugging and problem-solving in a firmware development context.
- Ability to evaluate and enhance firmware performance, especially in real-time operating environments.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines.
- Domestic travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Wi-Fi, BLE, and RF technologies.
- Familiarity with FreeRTOS or similar real-time operating systems.
- Knowledge of power optimization techniques for battery-operated devices.
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Understanding of data structures such as JSON and transmission protocols such as UDP, MQTT, etc.
- Familiarity with cloud services and IoT platforms.
- Additional programming language skills (Python, C++, etc.) beneficial for IoT development and data analysis.
