The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Reasonable Accommodation Specialist to join our Disability Support Branch. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that our organization adheres to the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act/Amendment Act by facilitating a streamlined and efficient reasonable accommodation process for our staff and supervisors.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Simplify and Streamline Processes:** Develop and implement clear, user-friendly guidelines to simplify the reasonable accommodation process for both staff and supervisors, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- **Facilitate Interactive Processes:** Collaborate with supervisors and staff to facilitate the interactive process, ensuring open communication and exploring accommodation options effectively.
- **Respond Promptly to Requests:** Identify and address reasonable accommodation requests in a timely manner, maintaining a focus on responsiveness and service excellence.
- **Create and Share Timelines:** Establish and communicate clear timelines for processing accommodation requests, ensuring that both staff and supervisors are informed and that deadlines are met.
- **Participate in Meetings and Trainings:** Engage in weekly and/or bi-weekly status meetings and training sessions led by the Disability Support Branch to stay informed and improve processes.
- **Maintain Case Reports:** Keep detailed records of case assignments, tracking the status of each request to ensure accountability and transparency in the process.
- **Continual Process Improvement:** Evaluate current processes and propose enhancements to streamline operations and improve the overall experience for staff and supervisors.
**Education Requirements:**
- **Bachelor's Degree:** A bachelor's degree in a business-related field is required.
- **Education Substitution:** Six years of relevant work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree, or an associate degree plus four years of relevant work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
**Experience Requirements:**
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in reasonable accommodation processes with a strong understanding of disability law, particularly the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act/Amendment Act.
**Skills and Qualifications:**
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage difficult conversations effectively and sensitively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and other relevant productivity software.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse populations.
