Acuity Brands is seeking a Senior Software engineer to join its Cloud Center of Excellence department. As a member of our team, you will bring your passion for working with a diverse array of engineering teams to help them create, manage, and evolve the technical health and capability of Acuity’s software products and services.
Overall, the team’s scope is broad, covering the end-to-end developer experience. Our aim is to continuously improve the tools and processes our engineering teams use to develop, deliver, and evolve their software services. With your help, we aim to accomplish this by developing innovative tools and services which remove common pain points for our engineering teammates, enabling them to focus more time on the business problems that matter to them. We intend to be open and creative in pursuing this mission, whether that’s by building net new or by leveraging, and contributing back to, open source and other projects. The senior software engineer role is an opportunity to apply your unique combination of engineering skills, and empathy for broken processes and tools to continuously improve software development at Acuity Brands. In the course of doing so you will work with a broad array of technology and business experts to leave a lasting impact on our internal culture, tools, and processes for building and operating software services.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
What you will do:
As a senior software engineer in our Cloud Center of Excellence department, you’ll work to enable the success of our application development teams by building tools and services that improve quality of life for developers across Acuity by automating painful processes. To do so, you will work with a variety of engineering teams to understand their pain points, define, execute a plan to address them, and iterate. Throughout these efforts you will continuously apply critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to balance the needs of our customers now versus their needs in the long term.

How you will contribute:
- Contribute to platform initiatives to achieve enterprise success, harnessing the power of Kubernetes, Cloud, and Integrations to drive innovation and excellence
- Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery plans. Leverage knowledge of backup and restore processes. Script automated recovery procedures to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.
- Actively participate in cross-functional teams or guilds (e.g., architecture council)
- Work cross team with engineers to ensure standards, define requirements, and foster excellence
- Assigned and implements complex components on a project
- Mentors and provides guidance to junior team members
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- 5-8 years of professional software development or automation experience in languages such as Java, C#, Python, or Golang. Working through all phases of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience using scripting tools such as Bash and PowerShell to automate tasks
- Experience deploying or operating software services on public cloud providers like Azure, AWS, and GCP
- Experience with Kubernetes and Containers
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Grafana, Kiali, Prometheus, Log Workspaces, and PagerDuty
- Experience with running, operating, and maintaining production systems
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with a wide variety of build and deployment tools and methodologies
- Experience working with, and contributing back to, open-source projects
- Experience working with or operating highly available distributed systems at scale
- Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent

The range for this position is $120,800.00 to $217,400.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
