Job description

Title: Senior Data Scientist - P4

Location: Remote USA

Reports To: Managing Director, Data Science 

The Role: 

As part of the Data and Engineering division of JD Power, you will work to understand what features drive the price of a vehicle and predicting what future values will be. Our data science team is accountable for every data point we output and provide industry-leading analytics that are accurate and transparent. We are looking for a Data Scientist who will have the freedom to utilize the latest technologies to solve challenging problems, create innovative machine learning processes from the ground up, deploy them into production on our AWS server, and develop the tools for monitoring them. We make data products and every new data product we output will solve a problem in the auto industry. Every Data Scientist will build models that go into production and directly impact our core products

About the job:

  • Daily immersion in automotive industry data
  • Work with senior data scientists to ensure model quality in terms of modeling methodologies, data / model validation metrics, actionable insights, and analytical/technical best practices
  • Implement models that are based on statistics, econometrics, and/or machine learning techniques such as: logistic regression, choice model, time-series model, panel data model, Bayesian statistics, structural equations, probability theory, clustering algorithms, etc.
  • Validate model results and package them into insightful client-friendly interpretations
  • Ensure rigorous quality control and detect anomalies in the model with ongoing new data streams
  • Interdisciplinary work: you’ll interact with multiple teams across the firm to implement our end-to-end solutions and improve processes. This includes Consulting, New Product Development, Data, Engineering, etc.

What we would love to see: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) with statistics or mathematical background: Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Quantitative Marketing, Finance, Engineering or similar
  • Graduate degree in a technical field (e.g. Statistics, Data Science, Economics) a plus
  • 6+ years of fulltime quantitative analytics professional experience, non-academic. 
  • Demonstrated expertise with modeling multiple outcomes across a consumer’s journey (e.g. Ranging from awareness to consideration and search, to purchase and post-purchase experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise with data analytics and/or statistical concepts such as: promotion/price, media mix modeling, multivariate regression, logistic regression, time-series modeling, Bayesian statistics, segmentation modeling, machine learning, data mining, simulation, optimization, and/or forecasting.
  • Fluency in statistical programming software: Strong Python skills.
  • Fluency of database software: Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience resolving complex data and analytical issues in creative and effective ways.
  • An effective cross functional communicator in both written and verbal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resilient work ethic.
  • Discrete choice experience a plus.
