Job description

We are a U.S.-based construction company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented VDC Mechanical Designer to support our virtual design and construction (VDC) efforts. This is a remote, independent contractor role, where the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and marking up HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with U.S. mechanical codes and industry standards.

What You'll Do

Mechanical System Design: Develop detailed HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system layouts, schematics, and mark-ups.
BIM Coordination: Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam to create accurate 2D and 3D mechanical models, collaborating with engineers and contractors to resolve conflicts before construction.
Pre-Construction Support: Work closely with U.S.-based project teams to provide mechanical design expertise, ensuring constructability and efficiency.
Plan Review & Quality Control: Analyze mechanical plans, perform quality checks, and recommend improvements for compliance and efficiency.
Load Calculations & Code Compliance: Perform HVAC load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection, ensuring designs comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and local codes.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, submittals, and drawings for review and approval.
Technical Collaboration: Coordinate with field engineers, project managers, and construction teams to provide ongoing design support.

What You'll Need

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in VDC mechanical design, preferably for U.S. projects.
Software Proficiency: Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar mechanical design tools.
Code Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and other U.S. mechanical codes.
Communication Skills: Proficiency in English, with the ability to collaborate with U.S.-based teams.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and propose solutions.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation.
Remote Work Readiness: Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently in a remote setting.

It's A Plus

Experience with BIM modeling and clash detection software.
Familiarity with construction project management workflows.
