Summary
The Claims Examiner is responsible for handling property damage or liability claims. The Claims Examiner must establish rapport with the insureds and maintain relationships with agents, underwriters, contractors, restoration vendors and experts working in a team environment with other Claims Examiners, Claims Adjusters and Claims Associates. Examiner will review policies, claims, property damage estimates, photos, police reports, inspection reports and other related reports to evaluate damage and coverage to determine amounts owed under the applicable insurance policy. Claims Examiners are responsible for requesting payments, documenting files, and preparing and issuing claim payment letters or denial letters when appropriate.
What You Will Do As A Claims Examiner
Investigates, evaluates, and resolves claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to affect fair and prompt resolution of claims.
Possesses the ability to read and interpret policy contracts
Adjusts reserves and/or provides reserve recommendations
Handles all types of claims, including homeowners, dwelling fire, tenant, condo, personal property and liability claims timely and in accordance with policy and procedure
This role will handle complex files including litigation, special investigations, fire and water losses, appraisals and disputed damage claims.
Enters claims payments when applicable and maintains clean, concise and accurate file documentation
Confers with legal counsel on claims involving coverage, legal or complex matters
Negotiates with the insured and/or claimant to resolve claim
Works with public adjusters, roofers, plumbers and other types of contractors
Manages correspondence and communication with various parties involved in the claim
What You Will Bring As A Claims Examiner
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Has 5+ years of property & casualty claims experience, with increasing responsibilities and authority
Ability to use Claims systems (PTS/IDMI) and can follow all policies and procedures
Appropriate state adjuster license and continuing education credits
Uses subject matter expertise, knowledge and skills to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
Gathers, interprets and analyzes information skillfully
Works with integrity and ethics and maintains confidentiality
Demonstrates ability to gain cooperation with peers and cross-functional teams to address issues and opportunities
Able to present initiatives with guidance to leadership
Effectively manages most difficult customer situations, act as an influencer and works toward resolution
Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups
Communicates effectively both verbally and in written correspondence
Works independently, with strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to assess workload and plan accordingly to meet competing deadlines
Cultivates an environment of teamwork and collaboration
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Pay Range*: $63,800 - $85,000 Annually
*Please know your actual pay at Porch will reflect a number of factors among which are your work experience and skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and our Porch employees, as well as your geographic location.
