Project/Program Manager IV (Data Science Process Optimization Lead)

About Role

The Data Science Process Optimization Lead will be responsible for facilitating the governance and execution of large data science projects and overseeing data science teams. This role involves collaboration with technical and product teams to deliver new capabilities. The position requires a combination of leadership, management, and ownership of data science processes, monitoring data science projects closely, and contributing directly to the organization's success.

Responsibilities

  • Data Science Governance Process Monitoring and Optimization: Gaining comprehensive knowledge of the ELS-wide data science governance process. Identify potential improvements and implement optimizations by collaborating with all relevant stakeholders and their teams to adopt the process, and leading optimization change programs. 
  • Awareness of the Data Science Governance process: Collaborating with our Global Communications teams to effectively communicate and implement the principles of the Data Science Governance Process within Elsevier; Partner with our Global Training teams to develop and deliver training materials designed to onboard our Data Science teams and relevant stakeholders to the optimized Data Science Governance processes. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Providing regular updates to Elsevier leadership groups on data science compliance and governance processes. Support external audit of the AI governance process and work towards compliance with international standards, such as ISO42001 certification for 2025/6. 
  • Project Deliveries: Managing high-value projects from start to finish. Work with engineering, product, and business teams to deliver on time, meet quality standards, and follow Data Science Governance processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with process optimization in a large organization 
  • Experience with monitoring and managing end-end data science projects will be highly appreciated 
  • Awareness/ interest in Responsible AI, with up-to-date knowledge of the AI governance landscape 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. 
  • In-depth knowledge of standards around AI and DS design, development and deployment of solutions 
  • Proven experience in managing and leading high-performing data science teams will be considered as an advantage. 
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering impactful projects by adhering to business policies, and standards
