Job description

In the early days of Facebook, when .edu emails were still required, “poke wars” ran rampant across the platform. Users would engage in endless poke battles, refusing to be the last person poked. Some users took Poke Wars so seriously that they would install browser extensions to “poke back” automatically and instantly. Some users would find themselves banned from their accounts for "excessive poking," a real violation of Facebook’s early terms of service.

By 2007, Facebook had filed US Patent US20130268661A1 " - Automatically Managing Objectionable Behavior In A Web-Based Social Network”, part of their efforts to slow the “poke wars”. Eventually, they would give up and remove the feature entirely, quite possibly because they didn’t what purpose it was trying to serve in the first place.

We don’t need a veteran of the “poke wars”, but we are looking for someone with serious social media chops to join Pulley’s Growth Marketing Team.

About Pulley

Pulley's mission is to make it easier for anyone to start a company. We believe that more startups should exist and that founder-led companies are more successful in the long term. With Pulley’s cap table management tools, companies can better understand and optimize their equity for the long term. Starting a company is hard enough. Managing equity shouldn’t be.

We’re a high-performing team looking for passionate, execution-focused, self-starters to help us build equity management tools for founders. Pulley is growing quickly with over 3000 customers including unicorns like Clubhouse, Birdies, and Coda - all within our first year of product launch. Our trajectory is fueled by top investors like Founder's Fund, Stripe, General Catalyst, Caffeinated Capital, 8vc, Elad Gil, among other great angels. All of our growth has been organic, and we’re growing the team to meet the demand.

About the Role:

Pulley is looking for a exceptional Social Media Manager to plan, build, own, and execute our Organic Social strategy while also helping to stand up our Paid Social strategy. The ideal candidate is experienced and comfortable with both the strategic and tactical work required to amplify our voice in the startup ecosystem and driving measurable impact on customer acquisition. This role will focus primarily on organic social (75%), while helping with paid social campaigns (25%) in the short term.

Responsibilities:

Organic Social:

  • Own and grow Pulley’s presence on at least LinkedIn, X (Twitter) and Reddit, crafting engaging, content tailored for founders, growth-stage teams, VCs, and the startup ecosystem.
  • Develop a consistent content calendar, posting and repurposing high-value insights across social channels.
  • Actively engage with our audience, participating in relevant conversations, responding to comments, and fostering relationships with key industry voices.
  • Collaborate with our content agency to align organic social efforts with broader demand generation content strategies.
  • Experiment with new content formats, A/B test messaging, and analyze performance data to continually refine Pulley’s social strategy.

Paid Social:

  • Plan, launch, and optimize paid social campaigns on LinkedIn, X and other channels, continually refining bidding and budgets to maximize impact.
  • Work with the marketing and creative teams to test and iterate ad creative, copy, and targeting strategies that align with Pulley’s growth objectives.
  • Monitor key paid social KPIs (costs-per-acquisition, volume, lead quality, and pipeline), adjusting strategy based on performance insights.
  • Ensure that organic and paid efforts complement each other, using top-performing organic content to inform paid amplification.
Who You Are:
  • 5+ years of experience managing organic social media strategy, ideally in a B2B, SaaS, or startup environment.
  • 1+ year of experience managing paid social media strategy, with preference given to LinkedIn and Twitter/X experience.
  • Experience building an organic social media program from 0 (or totally re-setting an existing strategy) at at least one prior stop.
  • Deep platform expertise with LinkedIn and X (Twitter)—understanding how to create content that resonates on each platform.
  • Strong copywriting and storytelling skills, able to craft compelling posts that drive engagement and conversions.
  • Analytical mindset, comfortable using social media analytics tools to measure impact and refine strategy.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys both high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
Why This Role Matters:

Pulley’s organic and paid social presence plays a key role in driving brand awareness, influencing long-sales-cycle deals, and amplifying high-performing content. This role will directly contribute to closed-won revenue, stronger engagement, and a more effective demand generation engine, ensuring Pulley remains top of mind for startups managing their equity.

✨ Our Culture

TL&DR - Pulley is a unique fit, tailored for those who align with our values and culture. Discover the engaging culture of Pulley. We are looking for people who are excited about building a great company, not just working in a high-growth startup. In addition to function-specific skills, here are some traits that enable our team members to thrive:

  • First Principles Thinking. We believe in breaking down problems into their most basic parts. We don’t reject ideas because they haven’t worked before. We understand “why did certain things work?” and apply it to our situation.
  • Ship It & Iterate. Shipping is the starting line for learning. Ship something, talk to users, get feedback, and iterate. We focus on the inputs, on what we can control, not the outcomes. We take our best bets, and don’t fixate on the finish line.
  • Boldly Honest & Aggressively Considerate. Being boldly honest means we push one another to act from first principles, set and hit goals, and ruthlessly prioritize. Being aggressively considerate means we care about each other as humans to win as a team. We speak up and embrace feedback.
  • Default Yes. We believe that something is possible unless proven otherwise. Hard problems are often solved by people who didn’t know it was impossible.

We’re also inspired by the culture work done at other companies and plan to develop our own playbook here too. One of the concepts that resonate most with us is the importance of stunning colleagues. If you like the sound of our environment and you’re passionate about joining a team like the one we’ve described, we'd love to talk!
