The Senior Financial Analyst will report directly to the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis – Canada Decision Support, and provide budgeting, forecasting, month-end duties, profitability analysis and effective decision support to marketing and sales teams on a day-to-day basis
This is a Remote Canada role.
What you’ll be doing:
  • Decision Support and Modelling – Develop, manage, and govern product P&L tools for Marketing teams that assists in scenario analysis of proposed strategies and initiatives.  As the P&L gatekeeper for base business, provide financial assessment on feasibility of proposals and strategic changes presented by Marketing, while providing guidance on solutions where required. Examples of strategic initiatives include pricing and promotional activities, product line extensions, and cost optimization projects.  Provide support to the Senior Finance Manager on marketing-innovation projects as required.
  • Pricing Financials – Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to build pricing models to assess profitability and provide financial thought leadership. Work closely with sales intelligence team to understand overall volume incrementality / impact of proposed pricing revisions.  Owns the FP&A trade grid pricing inputs and works closely with FP&A capabilities analyst to ensure proper data feeding into Corporate FP&A and central FP&A forecasting models.
  • OPEX Governance and Controls – Key financial business partner for North America direct sales and marketing budget owners. Execute the North American sales and marketing OPEX monthly reporting and provide monthly variance analysis of actual vs. budgeted spend. Lead quarterly OPEX spend review meetings with budget owners upholding accountability, building reforecasts of year-to-go spends, and compiling risks and opportunities to full year budget and forecasts. Variance drivers, forecasts and risk and opportunities will be provided to corporate FP&A for total business planning and forecasting.
  • Month-End Duties – Execute the North American sales and marketing cost centers monthly accrual process and partner with general accounting to ensure sufficient backup is supplied to meet audit requirements.  Works closely with accounts receivable and shared-service accounts payable team to provide allocation methodology for trade spend [listing fees, merchandising, sales incentive spends] into SAP to enable proper category, channel and brand level management reporting for North American net revenues.
  • Costing Oversight – Assess and bridge gaps between costing estimates in business case P&Ls developed for innovation launches and the bill-of-materials / product cost sheets that are built in Cronos’ ERP system. Deep dive into major differences and work with commercial team, SAP costing owner, and cost accounting to get alignment on most accurate costing estimates.
  • Trade Budget Management – Provide monthly reporting to Sales Director and Trade Marketing Manager on year-to-date variances of actuals vs. budgeted trade spends by province and product category.  Develop capability for Sales and Trade Marketing team to assess return-on-investment and incrementality of planned promotional programming such as temporary price reductions, multi-buys/bundles, and merchandising programs.
You’ll need to have: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, or math intensive major  
  • 3+ years financial analysis experience. Prior experience in supporting commercial teams (sales/customer) within a CPG/Retail environment is a plus
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience using SAP and/or OneStream is an asset
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, capable of quickly building trusting relationships, collaborating effectively cross-functionally, and influencing without direct authority
  • Self-Starter: confident and driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work autonomously
  • Solid project management and organizational skills, including documenting and optimizing processes
