As a Senior consultant, you will be a leader in your sector of expertise with complementary experience in related sectors. You will feel comfortable leading multiple complex assignments as well as contributing your expertise to others. Your knowledge and experience in your sector will have covered several of our 7 service areas and you will know what it means to deliver excellence in these areas to clients, colleagues and partners. As a sector leader, you will have experience in, and be keen to feed into strategic conversations, help to grow the business, capitalize on the knowledge you have to support others in their professional development and to support business and bid development activities including representing E Co. externally online or in -person.
About the role
E Co. is seeking experienced full time Senior Consultants to join our infrastructure team.
Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following general sectors within an urban context: transport and mobility, waste, water, WASH, energy, urban planning, industrial manufacturing, urban-agriculture and urban-forestry. Candidates should have extensive experience in developing and implementing green urban infrastructure solutions, with a track record of contributing to the development of sustainable cities.
Responsibilities & Duties
Strategy and business development
- Understand the strategic initiatives of the Consulting team
- Understand and adopt E Co’s company objectives
- Represent E Co. externally to build and enhance E Co’s reputation
- Marketing & Communications: contribute to campaigns and content (blogs, report articles, social media posts, podcasts, webinars, etc.)
Consulting/Billable
- Lead multiple assignments
- Ensure that all assignments under your supervision are delivered on time, within scope and budget and of high quality
- Manage assignment teams comprised of both internal and external experts
- Contribute to bid development and provide technical support to the Bid Development team
Acting as Assignment lead
- Management of the contract, scope, budget, resource plan, the allocation and - programming of activities, and product delivery
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and cost effectiveness
- Ensure compliance with E Co. processes and assignment management / standard operating procedures
- Identify issues and bottlenecks in a timely manner and seek support where necessary
- Ensure the delivery of the assignment deliverables with quality
- Oversee client management and develop an understanding of the client's expectations and manage those in line with the contract and scope of work
- Ensure quality communication with clients
- Ensuring the highest level of client experience
- Manage third-party assignment relationships (external experts, partners, other stakeholders)
Management and development of the Consulting team
- Lead, manage, and hold accountable (LMA) consultants in active assignments under your management
- Act as both line manager and mentor to a pool of internal Consultants and Analysts
- Model best practice behaviour in the use of E Co’s assignment management tools
- Provide constructive input into the continuous development of E Co’s assignment management and knowledge-sharing tools
- Support knowledge management & learning in your and contribute to others; share knowledge and exemplary behaviours through mentoring, assignment quality assurance, retrospectives, assignment presentations and communities of practice
Administration and compliance
- Follow all administrative assignment management / standard operating procedures within E Co.
- Provide constructive input into the continuous development of all E Co. assignment management / standard operating procedures
- Plan and log your own working time (non-billable/billable) in the online time-tracking software
- Active use of E Co’s CRM software and processes
Essential requirements
- Postgraduate degree – MBA, MA, MSc, PhD in a relevant technical subject is highly desirable
- An outstanding academic and career record
- Excellent interpersonal skills, empathetic and open
- A minimum of 15 years working experience within the infrastructure sector in particular with a focus on sustainable development and/or mitigation and adaptation to climate change
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in:
Green/sustainable cities, preferably with experience in measuring environmental performance and improvements in development of sustainability plans for cities;
Policy-related experience related to local governance, particularly related to urban planning, climate change mitigation and adaptation and environmental policies and regulations;
Economics experience in applied cost-benefit analysis and/or related multi-criteria analysis;
Finance experience with knowledge of private and public financing on related green-/ and brownfield projects;
Relating to the incorporation of environmental, economic, social and gender aspects in the development of green/sustainable city agendas;
- A minimum of 5 years relevant experience working with municipalities in relevant countries relating to urban sustainability and both national and local municipal regulation
- A minimum of 5 years experience developing strategic plans and to support the transition to green infrastructure
- A minimum of 5 years experience writing strategic policy documents that can be read and understood by a broad audience
- Experience working with the EBRD, WB, EIB and bilateral donors working on green cities, smart cities, and infrastructure related programmes and projects is essential. Experience working with global funds would be an advantage.
- Experience in a number of the following areas: Data acquisition and analysis, stakeholder engagement and management, strategy and climate action planning, policy baselining and feasibility assessment, economic and financial analysis, green finance, municipal finance, environmental engineering, geospatial analysis, gender and social safeguarding
- Fluency in English
- Positive, resilient, flexible and adaptable “can-do” attitude that can see its way through challenges.
- Knowledge of and a keen interest in infrastructure issues and their applicability to developing contexts.
- Ability to think both strategically/big picture and to focus on the detail/manage the day-to-daY
- Experience supporting business and bid development including writing proposals in your sector
- Managed complex teams and budgets in your sector
Highly desirable
- Significant relevant experience in MENA, Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia region and/or Sub-saharan Africa
- Fluency in another language (including Russian, Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese)
- A wide network of contacts in the sustainable and international development sector
