Job description

Overview:

The Senior Water Quality Scientist position is primarily responsible for assessing water quality sampling data, assessing the health and pollutants impacts in receiving stream, and performing scenario planning using water quality modeling within lakes, rivers, estuaries and coastal systems.  This position will leverage water quality sampling data as well as water quality modeling tools like EFDC, WASP, CE-QUAL-W2, along with other two-dimensional and three-dimensional water quality modeling tools to support the Water market as well as Woolpert’s other global service offerings.   

 

Our clients are facing a multitude of challenges including receiving stream eutrophication and growing non-point source pollution from stormwater, population growth and increasing urban stream wasting impacting the health and vitality of our water systems, climate change exacerbating pollutant runoff and stream erosion, accelerating coastal erosion due to sea level rise and more frequent storm surge, ecosystem impacts and the loss of fluvial and coastal resilience, etc.  The Senior Water Quality Scientist will assess water quality sampling data and leverage water quality models to better understand dynamic system responses to these challenges, visualize impacts, drive better and more cost-effective mitigation strategies.  

 

We are seeking a professional to join our team as a Senior Water Quality Scientist. This individual will work across the country with other Woolpert’s Water professionals to deliver water quality services.  In addition, Senior Water Quality Scientist will collaborate with the Federal, Buildings, Infrastructure, and Geospatial leaders to ensure the firm can support and deliver these services globally.   

Responsibilities:
  • Support the delivery of water quality services through analysis of water quality data and the use of 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D water quality models.   

  • Analyze water quality systems such as streams, rivers, lakes, estuaries, harbors, and coastal systems and lead scenario planning efforts to support client decision making and investment strategies. 

  • Collaborate with internal water market leaders to support the business development and delivery of water quality services.   

  • Support the growth of water quality services in municipal, federal, US, and overseas markets.   

  • Manage the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of water quality services and deliverable quality and implement standard operating procedures. 

  • Meet yearly market goals aligned with vision, strategy, structure, and staffing. 

  • Project management, including developing project plans, budgeting, scheduling, implementing QA/QC measures, creating proposals, and maintaining client relations. 

  • Support and develop innovation strategies to create marketplace differentiation and client value. 

  • Support managing team wide KPIs, including net revenue, utilization, and budget dollar variance. 

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science (BS, BSc, or BSE).  Master of Science preferred 

  • Must have 15+ years of experience in water quality planning/modeling/engineering 

  • Must have experience working in cross-discipline teams and serving as the technical lead. 

  • Must be proficient using water quality software such as EFDC, WASP, CE-QUAL-W2 software 

  • Must have above average verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills for both internal and external relationships.  

  • Must be able to manage multiple, competing priorities and projects  

  • Must be able to analyze and evaluate multiple project components, schedules and budgets. 

  • Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with clients, vendors, management and associates. 

  • Must possess negotiation, conflict management and problem-solving skills. 

  • Must possess above-average facilitation and/or meeting skills. 

  • Must have Microsoft Office suite skills.
