POSITION SUMMARY

Oportun is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of HR to lead the Human Resources and Talent Acquisition (TA) function for our India team. This senior leadership role will be responsible for driving HR strategy, organizational development, workforce planning, leadership coaching, and employee engagement while ensuring alignment with Oportun’s global HR practices.

As a key partner to business leaders, this individual will manage end-to-end HR operations, support talent acquisition efforts, and foster a high-performance culture. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in HR strategy, talent management, and organizational effectiveness to scale and optimize Oportun’s India workforce.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • HR Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with Oportun’s global objectives, ensuring they are tailored to the unique needs of the India market. Lead initiatives focused on workforce planning, talent acquisition, and employee engagement that directly support the business's growth.
  • Talent Management: Partner with business leaders to drive talent management initiatives, including leadership development, succession planning, and performance management. Implement programs designed to attract, retain, and develop high-potential employees.
  • Organizational Development: Work closely with business leaders to assess and optimize organizational design and structure. Identify and drive key initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness, productivity, and employee satisfaction. Use data-driven insights to guide decision-making around team structures, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Leadership Coaching: Provide executive coaching and guidance to senior leadership on building strong teams, improving leadership effectiveness, and fostering a high-performance culture. Support leaders in handling complex employee relations issues and coaching them on conflict resolution and performance improvement.
  • Employee Engagement & Culture: Champion employee engagement initiatives, ensuring that Oportun’s values and culture are deeply embedded in the India workforce. Develop and implement programs aimed at improving morale, fostering a collaborative environment, and increasing employee retention.
  • Talent Acquisition (TA): Partner with the global Talent Acquisition team to drive recruitment strategies for India, ensuring the company attracts top-tier talent. Oversee the end-to-end recruitment process for key roles, collaborating with hiring managers and HR teams to ensure effective talent sourcing and onboarding.
  • HR Operations: Oversee day-to-day HR operations, ensuring smooth execution of HR processes such as performance reviews, compensation planning, compliance, and benefits administration. Ensure consistent application of global HR practices while adjusting for local nuances in the India market.
  • Change Management: Lead organizational change initiatives, supporting business transformations and ensuring smooth transitions. Provide leadership and guidance on change management strategies to ensure successful implementation of HR-driven changes.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure HR effectiveness. Regularly report on HR metrics such as employee turnover, talent acquisition effectiveness, engagement scores, and leadership development outcomes to the senior leadership team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 9 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing HR and Talent Acquisition functions.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior business leaders in a fast-paced, globally dispersed organization (preferably headquartered in the US).
  • Strong background in HR strategy, talent management, performance management, succession planning, and leadership coaching.
  • Experience designing and implementing organization-wide HR programs covering recruitment, talent development, workforce planning, and employee engagement.
  • Workday and Greenhouse experience required, with a strong understanding of HRIS and ATS best practices.
