Job description

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) seeks an enthusiastic, personable, and detail-oriented intern to support and assist the Public Affairs Department in its marketing, communication and public affairs efforts.


The Public Affairs Intern will support the department in creating content for our current digital channels (FB, Insta, X, LinkedIn). 


Upon successful completion of this 12-week internship, the selected intern will receive a $500 stipend paid in a lump sum amount. In addition, selected interns will receive resume-building experience and the opportunity to interact with multiple levels of marketing, communications and public affairs professionals. The intern may also receive educational credit hours if approved by their academic institution.

 Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with content creation for digital channels. Content may include patient stories, advocacy campaigns, recipes, overall liver health messaging. 
  • Assist with implementing a promotional plan for new content. 
  • Assist in creating new marketing templates.
  • Assist with minor video editing using ALF software.
  • Using existing content from ALF website (particularly wellness content), to create Top 5 or Top 10 educational lists for patients. 
  • Review previous Facebook posts to examine most popular, work with Public Affairs team to tee up for new imagery and repurpose.
  • Create easy to use social media cheat sheet for patients and advocates and assist with developing a social media toolkit for summer advocacy campaign. 
  • Review ALF’s YouTube library to identify content that could be used for posts and placement on LF.org

Qualifications

  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Strong team communication skills to ensure the ability to work in a virtual environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, stay organized and manage several projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office programs and conducting online research
  • Must enjoy working as a member of a team with multiple projects. 


Working Environment 

This is a remote, work-from-home position with a required set schedule of approximately 10 - 20 hours per week.  Schedule is flexible and will need to be proposed to and approved by the Chief Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs Officer. 


Education Requirements

Candidates should be in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Communications, Marketing, Video Production, Journalism and/or related discipline. Preference given to rising Juniors and Seniors.
