  • Prepare and review financial reports, including CRA T3010 Annual Charity Information Returns and documents for annual audits.
  • Mentor and support accounting team members, and liaise with other departments to develop financial processes and controls.

GGC is actively searching for a Senior Accountant

*Remote work arrangement. Must reside in Canada

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Reporting and Analysis, and working with several internal stakeholders, the Senior Accountant will successfully assist in the preparation of annual operating budget and project budgets (national, provincial, and departmental), provide analysis and monthly reporting packages to the Senior Leadership Team, prepare reporting for Committees and the Board of Directors, provide support to the annual financial audit, and complete special projects as needed. If you have strong interpersonal and effective communications skills, you are highly motivated, adaptable to change, enjoy multi-tasking and have advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, this could be the role for you.

The Senior Accountant will oversee:


General Accounting Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly accounts reconciliations and analysis.
  • Reconcile revenue streams (i.e. membership, cookie fundraising and donations) and ensure proper recognition principles are followed.
  • Process and review monthly journal entries and inter-divisional transfers.
  • Analysis and tracking accuracy of internally & externally restricted funds.
  • Develop and update various forms, templates for accounting & other departments.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Preparation and consolidation of forecasting and budgeting reports.
  • Prepare and review monthly internal financial reports.
  • Prepare CRA T3010 Annual Charity Information Returns and other governmental tax filings.
  • Prepare documents for annual audit and respond to auditor inquiries including performing all reallocation and year-end adjustment entries for the preparation of the final audited financial statements.
  • Offer advanced analysis and review of financial transactions for troubleshooting and correcting errors in the organization’s financial systems.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and compile statistics.

Finance Administration & Support

  • Evaluate internal procedures, as well as analytical statements so as to give suggestions on how to enhance information process and resource flow.
  • Mentor and support other accounting team members by providing guidance on any finance related issues or concerns
  • Respond to staff and volunteer inquiries efficiently and effectively.
  • Liaise with other department managers and staff to develop appropriate financial processes and controls
  • Communicate with external IT partners to ensure proper accounting procedures are followed when changes are made to any systems
  • Other duties as assigned.

You are the Ideal Candidate if you have:

  • Post-secondary education in Business/Administration, Accounting, Finance or related degree.
  • Professional accounting designation CPA, CGA, CMA, or in the final stages of completion.
  • 4+ years progressive experience in accounting or finance role
  • Advanced knowledge of Office 365 environment, MS Office Suite, particularly Excel including pivot tables and VBA.
  • Advanced knowledge of Sage 300.
  • Advanced knowledge of VENA.
  • Strong technical skills to be able to navigate and learn unique cloud based centralized banking system
  • Superb time-management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Girl Guides and/or working with the non-profit or charitable sector an asset.
  • Ability to apply organizational policies regarding inclusivity to content, member communication and customer service.

Starting Salary: $67,789

*Salary based on location, Greater Toronto Area
