Salary Range: $93,750-$206,250
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $93,750-$206,250 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Software Engineer, you will
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
- Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic
- Identify and troubleshoot performance and scalability issues
- Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data
- Work closely with product managers to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle to solve complex problems.
- Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
- Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
- Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or equivalent education or work experience.
- Experience in software engineering with demonstrated success delivering enterprise-scale solutions.
- Fluency and Specialization with technologies such as Java, Springboot, Oracle, Docker, Openshift and Graffana.
- Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
- Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
- Experience in testing methodologies using frameworks such as Junit, Spock testing framework, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Rail, Shipping, Airline, Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, or other Transportation industries.
- Familiarity with Microservices development.
- Experience with open-source libraries and frameworks.
- Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe).
- Familiarity with Docker for containerization and microservices architecture.
- Proven ability to debug, analyze, and resolve performance bottlenecks in complex applications.
