Role Overview:
The Billing Specialist will oversee the entire medical billing and collections process, ensuring timely and accurate claim submissions, insurance verifications, and payment postings.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Insurance Billing & Claims Management:
- Process and submit claims to insurance providers (private and Medicaid).
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage before patient appointments.
- Follow up on denied or rejected claims, ensuring resubmissions are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure all claims comply with HIPAA, CPT, and ICD-10 coding regulations.
Patient Billing & Payment Processing:
- Generate and send out patient invoices/statements.
- Handle patient inquiries regarding their bills, co-pays, and insurance coverage.
- Process and post payments, setting up payment plans as necessary.
Revenue Cycle & Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date patient billing records in the practice’s EMR and billing system.
- Generate financial reports on outstanding payments, insurance reimbursements, and billing trends.
- Identify trends in claim denials and recommend process improvements.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, and revenue cycle management.
- Strong understanding of CPT codes, ICD-10 coding, EOBs, and medical terminology.
- Experience working with Medicaid and private insurance payers.
- Proficiency in medical billing software, EMRs, and clearinghouse portals.
- Strong problem-solving skills—ability to handle claim rejections and denials independently.
- Exceptional attention to detail and compliance with HIPAA and insurance regulations.
- Strong communication skills for patient and insurance follow-ups.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with billing for ADHD and behavioral health services.
- Knowledge of pre-authorization processes for mental health treatments.
- Background in pediatrics or family medicine billing.
- Familiarity with payment reconciliation and financial reporting.
- Ability to assist with front desk patient intake when needed.
