Job description

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

This is a remote, home-based internship. Full time students from all US geographies will be considered. Our 2025 Summer internship program is an 8-week Paid Internship that runs from June 2nd – July 25th, at 37.5 hours weekly. The program will join interns across the country who are supporting different department focuses on American Cancer Society and ACS's Cancer Action Network. 80% of the time will be in working within the given department, with the Intern's manager, their mentor, and the team. The other 20% will be with a cohort of other interns around American Cancer Society and ACS CAN.

Upon direction by the Federal Affairs team, attending regular internal and external meetings with Federal team members, drafting and editing memo, summaries and briefings, researching various issues esoteric to the Federal team and assisting with additional office duties as assigned by the Federal team.

Responsibilities:

  • The ability to work collaboratively with the federal team, ACS and ACS CAN leadership, office staff and volunteers on legislative-related issues.
  • Must have prior experience working in a fast-paced office environment with multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Top-notch analytical, drafting, editing and writing skills under deadlines.
  • Political savvy to work and communicate on a bi-partisan, bi-cameral basis.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be available for entirety of 8-week program: June 2 – July 25, 2025, at 37.5 hours per week.

  • Full-time student, if you are an undergraduate student, you have completed your freshman year of college.

  • Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale).

  • Plan to continue your education in the following term/semester.

  • Upload a resume upon application submission.

  • Note: an internship assignment may coincide with your last term/trimester as a full-time student, but the internship must be disengaged upon graduation.

The rate for this position is $18/hour. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
