Job description

Compensation: $135,000 - $160,000 per year. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 15% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.

Corporate Counsel - Remote 

The Corporate Counsel drafts, reviews, and negotiates a wide range of contracts and provides actionable advice and counsel to key internal business groups. As a member of the contracts team within the legal department, the Corporate Counsel works cross-departmentally to promote the company’s interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies. This is a fully remote role that can be performed anywhere in the United States.

Essential Functions:

As a key member of the legal team, the role has the following responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various types of contracts, ensuring favorable terms for the company while mitigating risks (including confirming all contracts adhere to relevant legal regulations and company policies) and collaborating cross-departmentally to ensure alignment on contract terms and execution.
  •  Provide legal advice and guidance on contractual matters.
  •  Maintain accurate records of all contract-related documents.
  •  Stay updated on changes in contract law and industry standards.
  •  Resolve disputes and issues related to contractual agreements, including partnering with other internal and external counsel as needed.
  • Provide proactive counsel and advice to business partners, with particular focus on reducing contractual risk and embedding risk-mitigation into product design.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience independently performing the responsibilities described in the “Key Responsibilities” section above.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with negotiating licensing and/or service agreements in healthcare or other regulated industry is a plus.
  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in good standing in the State of California or any other jurisdiction (admission to State Bar of California or eligibility under the Registered In-House Counsel provisions of the State Bar of California strongly preferred).

Work Requirements:  

  • Limited travel required as needed (usually <15%). 
  • Must have the ability to effectively work with others remotely, manage a schedule across multiple time zones, and provide business-focused advice as a trusted partner.
  • Ability to work remotely, be self-organized, and self-manage the workload and schedule.
  • Strong decision-making, project management, and organizational skills.       

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Proven ability to perform the responsibilities described in the “Essential Responsibilities” section above.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface, and develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, and work cross-culturally.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, with the ability to articulate company vision and policy, and to mitigate risk.
  • Ability to consistently apply good judgment, common sense, and prioritize.
  • Adapts nimbly to changing needs within the business.
  • Comfort applying healthcare and data privacy laws to complex scenarios.
  • Ability to distill and communicate complex legal concepts for non-attorney audiences.
  • Sense of humor, and a positive attitude.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
