This position within the Legal Department is held by a lawyer with strong legal expertise, focusing on delivering business-oriented, effective legal services, project management, and strategic counseling specifically tailored to Managed Services Organizations (MSOs) and physician practices. The lawyer will be responsible for key legal matters affecting these areas and will provide oversight for defined business or corporate clients within Cencora’s healthcare sector.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver effective legal services to MSOs and physician practices, addressing their unique regulatory and operational needs.
- Manage and mentor one or more legal professionals, fostering a collaborative environment focused on healthcare compliance and business strategy.
- Handle significant legal projects related to MSOs, demonstrating excellent legal skills and expertise in healthcare law.
- Exhibit strong project management capabilities, taking on mixed legal and business responsibilities for contracts and agreements pertinent to MSOs and physician practices.
- Represent Cencora and its MSO client groups in significant business contracts, leading negotiations that involve both legal and business interests.
- Provide business-oriented yet legally compliant recommendations to clients, demonstrating strong decision-making abilities.
- Solve complex legal challenges within the MSO and physician practice contexts, bringing innovative perspectives to existing solutions.
- Manage multiple legal matters effectively, prioritizing tasks to ensure timely and efficient completion.
- Adapt to changes within the healthcare landscape, shifting priorities as needed.
- Seek challenging assignments within the MSO and physician practice domains, engaging in ongoing development discussions and being open to feedback.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with a strong emphasis on healthcare law, particularly as it pertains to MSOs and physician practices.
- Law degree from an accredited institution and admission to the state bar.
- Comparable to counsel, non-equity partner, or service partner in a law firm with the capacity to perform sophisticated legal work both independently and in a supervisory capacity.
MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Comprehensive understanding of healthcare laws and regulations relevant to MSOs and physician practices, including the Anti-Kickback statute, False Claims Act, and Stark law.
- Experience in clinical trial agreements and understanding of related FDA regulations a plus. In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks, including SEC, FTC, and FDA regulations, as well as corporate law. Proven experience in the healthcare sector, ideally with MSOs or physician practices, serving as a strategic partner to internal business clients.
- Experience in negotiating and structuring contracts relevant to MSOs, including service agreements and collaborative arrangements with healthcare providers.
- Capability to supervise outside legal counsel, ensuring quality and compliance in legal matters impacting Cencora’s healthcare operations.
- Familiarity with Cencora’s business within the healthcare landscape, including current policies, practices, and competitive trends.
- Strong judgment and ability to plan and accomplish goals effectively.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly to all levels of associates.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, fostering collaboration across teams.
- Proficient drafting and negotiating skills, with attention to detail and organizational effectiveness.
- Ability to interpret legal trends and apply them within the context of MSOs and physician practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
