General Description:
The Global Director of Pricing holds responsibility for developing and executing strategic pricing initiatives within a defined geographic scope (JAPAC, New Markets, China) to maximize product value and optimize market access. Working in close partnership with GVAP Therapeutic Area Lead Solid Tumors, Commercial teams and PSV (Product & Strategy Team) this role supports the design and implementation of global pricing strategies, ensuring alignment with regional access teams and providing critical insights into payer expectations and competitive pricing landscapes. Further, the role provides strategic guidance to the clinical development organization with the goal of insuring clinical trials are optimized for payer clinical assessments.
Within the assigned geographic scope, the Global Director of Pricing manages price bands and oversees gross-to-net pricing.
This role will actively support Regional Access Leads and affiliate access teams within the assigned region to prepare business cases for new product launches, line extensions, and lifecycle management, including managing the international reference pricing (IRP) process and conducting margin and profitability analyses. Additionally, with dedicated responsibility for a specific Therapeutic Area Solid Tumors, the Global Director of Pricing supports the GVAP TA Solid Tumors team by contributing to the development and refinement of pricing strategies tailored to each therapeutic area’s unique market dynamics.
Essential Functions of the job:
Global Pricing Strategy Development & Execution:
Lead the development of comprehensive global pricing strategies for products within the assigned TA, ensuring consistency and alignment with therapeutic area and commercial objectives.
Collaborate with regional and affiliate teams to adapt and implement pricing strategies, ensuring alignment with local pricing regulations, reimbursement pathways, and payer expectations.
Support Regional Access Leads and Affiliate Access teams in preparing business cases for price approval processes
Run Price Approval Process and prepare communication for Executive Leadership
Price Governance & Compliance:
Manage global price governance processes, manage pricing corridors and pricing floors to ensure consistency across countries and regions.
Ensure adherence to internal pricing policies and external pricing regulations within the assigned geographic scope, working closely with Compliance, Legal, Finance, and Regional Access teams.
Conduct pricing impact assessments and provide strategic recommendations to balance pricing consistency with market-specific requirements.
Lifecycle Pricing & Launch Preparation:
Support development and execution of pricing strategies for new product launches, line extensions, and lifecycle management opportunities within the assigned Therapeutic Area.
Partner with Market Access and HEOR teams to integrate clinical and economic value messages into pricing strategies that support launch readiness.
Lead pre-launch pricing workshops and simulations to prepare regional teams for pricing negotiations, optimize price corridors, and anticipate potential pricing challenges.
Geographic Pricing & Market Insights:
Lead geographic-specific pricing strategies and recommend price setting, adjustment, or re-alignment based on local and regional market insights.
Monitor and analyze the pricing environment across assigned regions, understanding pricing trends, payer requirements, and competitor pricing strategies to inform future pricing decisions.
Provide insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership on global and regional pricing trends within the defined therapeutic area and geographic scope.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as the primary pricing lead for the assigned Therapeutic Area within global and regional cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with Market Access, Commercial, HEOR, and Regulatory teams.
Provide strategic guidance to the clinical development organization with the goal of insuring clinical trials are optimized for payer clinical assessments
Engage regularly with regional affiliates to build alignment on pricing strategies and support affiliate teams in preparing for price negotiations and market access submissions.
Present and communicate pricing strategies, competitive insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders across the organization.
Education Required: Undergraduate bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Business Administration, specialization: Pricing, Strategic Planning, Marketing or similar. Additionally, MBA preferred or / and PhD
Other Qualifications:
A minimum of 8 years of related pharmaceutical experience is necessary with at least 5 years of direct experience in a global / regional pricing function, with a proven track record of success developing effective pricing policies and driving strategy, in launching a pharmaceutical product in emerging markets
Detailed understanding of global pricing & reimbursement landscape in the assigned region, including the interrelation of various region pricing guidelines, HTA and national reimbursement process and requirements.
Strong understanding of regional pricing requirements for coverage and reimbursement with the ability to manage complex cases and successfully address customer objections and questions.
Knowledge of health technology assessment methods / health economics (HE) modeling is an advantage
Ability to work effectively and communicate across multiple cultures and a breadth of functions and levels
Analytical competencies to structure complex issues, synthesize key points and communicate and present in an easy-to-understand manner
Strategic thinking, initiative, organization, prioritization and planning skills
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, a second language is an advantage
