Job Opportunity: Planning Forester

Employee type: Full time, Permanent

Location: Vancouver Island, BC

Compensation:  $75,000 - $95,000/ Annually

WHAT  YOU WILL DO

Operating within Forsite’s Resource Stewardship Group, the Planning Forester will

-          Develop and facilitate integrated resource management planning processes in response to a range of forest land management challenges - including forest stewardship, watershed management, landscape resilience and wildfire risk.

-          Support the Forsite Team in providing services to our Indigenous, Community Forests, Forest Licensees, and Local Governments including license management, partnerships, stewardship planning, forest operations, and economic development.

 

This position will require extensive knowledge of forest legislation & policy and landscape level forest management and wildfire management concepts to provide focused, innovative, and meaningful solutions to our clients. Depending on the candidate's experience and interests, the Planning Forester's projects may include License Management, Forest Landscape Plans, Integrated Resource Management Plans, Land Use Plans, Access Management Plans, Old Growth Management, Wildfire Management, and Climate Vulnerability Assessments.


WHO YOU ARE

  • A safety conscious attitude
  • Degree or diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management
  • Minimum 5-8 years of related experience in forest management planning and operations, with preference to those with coastal forestry experience
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) in BC
  • Experience in the facilitation and coordination of forest management and planning processes with Indigenous communities, forest licensees, or local governments.
  • Conducted spatial and operational analysis using GIS tools to support land use planning, resource assessments and operational decision making would be an asset
  • Background in operational forest management and/or wildfire risk management would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Able to work both independently under limited direct supervision as well as in a project team environment
  • Flexible with strong organizational and time management skills to with ability to work under pressure to meet targets; and
  • Able to work with excellent attention to detail with work accuracy and quality.
