Our Opportunity:

The Business Manager will provide support to Purdue University Global.  Building on Purdue University's mission to provide greater access to affordable, high-quality education, Purdue University Global is a public, nonprofit institution offering a world-class education online.

Job Summary:

The Business Manager directs the management of finance and business services for Purdue Global (PG) with annual weighted operating expenditures in the range of $400 million. This role collaborates closely with central business service operations and other related entities in meeting the strategic goals of the University. This Business Manager plays a key role in the preparation of financial and management reports to support long-range planning forecast; budget recommendations, planning, and analysis; and financial analysis and strategic financial management of area resources.

 

The Business Manager leads special projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Director of Finance. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of specialist reports to support short- and long-range forecasting and making budget recommendations. The Business Manager serves as a mentor and key resource person within the Finance Department. This role serves as the resource/liaison for PG Departments and Schools and maintains a unit that provides excellent business management support to Deans, Department Heads, faculty, and staff.

 

This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Finance and includes a virtual work location.

What to expect in this role:
  • Financial Management, Business Operations and Reporting:
    • Provide leadership and other staff with historical reports, projections, and analytical studies that facilitate decision-making processes.
    • Establish and maintain departmental procedures to effectively and efficiently handle business functions and ensure that sufficient documentation exists to support appropriateness of all business transactions.
    • Ensure accuracy of data in the budget system and provide budget analyses. Maintain proper fiscal and administrative controls.
    • Oversee the preparation of financial reports in support of long-range planning.
    • Analyze financial report data and make recommendations to fiscal and operational leadership.
    • Assist department directors in planning, developing and preparing each department’s annual operating budget.

 

  • Finance Policy Administration and Strategic Business Support:
    • Analyze systems, procedures, policies and resources; take appropriate leadership action to provide the most effective business unit support for the Unit.
    • Advise Deans, Department Heads, Directors, or appropriate person regarding University financial policies and procedures.
    • Exercise judgement regarding high risk and high liability activities; provide recommendations for review by supervisor or executive officers as appropriate.

 

  • Fiscal Approver Administration and General Activities:
    • Responsible for Business Manager level fiscal approval roles
    • Lead special projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Director of Finance.
    • Serve on a variety of committees and initiatives to review, recommend, and implement changes to financial policies and procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or related field of study required.
  • 4-5 years experience in business administration, financial management, or related experience required.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • 6+ credit hours of accounting coursework
    • Higher education experience
    • Experience with SAP, Cognos, Oracle or related financial systems

  • Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel and Powerpoint as well as Google applications such as Gmail, Chat, Hangout and shared drives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor with people at all levels within the organization and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, balance competing demands for time, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments, and Schools.
