Job description

The Opportunity:

To evolve and advance these efforts, we are seeking a sustainability professional to lead strategy and implementation for our customer engagement and sustainable product portfolio programs.

The Product Sustainability and Customer Engagement Manager reports directly to the VP, Global Sustainability. As a key member of the team responsible for setting the enterprise sustainability strategy and associated stakeholder engagement, this person will collaborate with internal and external customer teams, as well as key functional partners in R&D, sourcing, and IT to achieve common goals.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of sustainable product development, communications and interpersonal skills, and is comfortable working in a matrixed environment.

This is a temporary position for covering maternity leave for approximately one year.

What we're looking for:

  • BA/BS in environmental science, sustainability, green chemistry, product design, or related degree.
  • Relevant experience in applying ecodesign and life cycle thinking inside a business setting, including recommendations and action plans
  • Experience in cross-functional team leadership or clear record of effective leadership by influence is required
  • Life sciences, pharmaceutical, or health industry experience a plus.
  • Experience working in global teams preferred
  • Ability to develop and present ideas and trainings clearly, concisely and effectively.
  • Capacity for handling multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate across various cultures as well as work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Business acumen
  • Upholds high standards of ethical and professional conduct

How you will thrive and create an impact:

  • Execute pilot product life-cycle projects including making recommendations for improvements to platforms, processes, and product attributes
  • Manage the company’s Environmentally Preferable Products program, collaborating with product portfolio and sourcing teams on opportunities for driving growth through sustainable products
  • Support commercial and sales teams in directly engaging customers on our sustainability strategy and offerings
  • Use sustainable design knowledge to serve as an internal expert and develop tools for our R&D, Sourcing, Packaging teams, and suppliers
  • Deliver communications materials and tools to support Sourcing, Marketing and Commercial teams in the development and promotion of more environmentally sustainable products and services
  • Support sustainability strategy development and execution by deeply understanding strategic customers’ needs and market trends
  • Some regional travel may be required
