Mainframe to Cloud Migration Architect

Techstra is seeking an experienced Mainframe to Cloud Migration Architect with a minimum of 10 years of legacy platform rewrite experience and lead the transformation of a large legacy mainframe system to a modern cloud based application platform.

Responsibilities: 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and plan the rewrite and migration of core functional capabilities of a large legacy mainframe application to a new modern cloud architecture. 

• Analyze existing mainframe systems, identify core functions, data structures and processes, and develop strategies for migration from legacy to new rewritten cloud native applications. 

• Design and implement solutions to migrate mainframe applications to modern architectures, such as cloud-based or distributed systems. 

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define success criteria for mainframe rewrite project. 
   
• Work closely with application developers and architects to ensure seamless integration of modernized components. 

• Evaluate and select appropriate tools and technologies to support mainframe migration efforts. 

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship involved in the modernization process. 

• Conduct thorough testing and debugging of modernized applications to ensure high performance and reliability. 

• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to mainframe modernization. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 

• Proven experience as a Mainframe Modernization/Migration Lead or in a similar role. 

• Proficiency with mainframe technologies, languages, and environments (COBOL, PL/I, and Assembler, DB2, IMS, CICS, VMS, etc.) 

• Hands-on experience with migration tools, frameworks, and methodologies. 

• Development experience with modern technologies such as Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring Boot, Microservices, Angular, Kubernetes, Kafka, APIs, REST, and various cloud services. 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams. 

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
