About This Opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Member Risk, in this role, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance on girl protection best practices, offering advice, coaching, and support to Unit Guiders, Commissioners, ACLs, Community Guiders and other senior volunteers, and staff on issues including child abuse prevention, self-harm, mental health, bullying, behavior management, and accessibility. Collaborating with other GGC teams this role develops training, resources, and communication strategies to enhance safeguarding efforts and address gaps in girl protection and girl support initiatives. You will help to ensure that girl protection and support processes are aligned with the organization’s policies and practices.
In this role you will:
- Serve as an expert resource on girl protection, child safeguarding and girl support.
- Advice, coach, and support Unit Guiders, Commissioners/ACLs, and other Adult Members on, child abuse prevention and protection, self-harm, mental health concerns, bullying, behavior management.
- Review and provide guidance on policies, protocols, and best practices related to girl protection and girl support.
- Assist in the development and implementation of girl protection initiatives, including awareness campaigns, training, and policy updates.
- Respond to inquiries related to girl protection matters across all organizational levels.
- Reviews incident and girl protection reports and follows up according to organizational policies and practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align girl protection policies with organizational risk management frameworks.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records related to girl protection cases, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational guidelines.
- Work closely with the Volunteer Management Specialist and the DEIA team to ensure appropriate support, coaching and management of Adult Members
- Review and update relevant documents, practices and policies
- Identify gaps in girl protection resources and assist in developing communication strategies around these issues.
General
- Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Liaise with other departments as required.
- Provide general, ongoing support to members/volunteers, responding to/directing inquiries and consulting with the appropriate groups and individuals to support the mission and vision of GGC.
- Other duties as assigned.
You are the ideal candidate if you have:
- Post-secondary degree in social work, child and youth services, education, outdoor recreation, or a related field
- Minimum of three years of experience in a relevant field such as child protection, social work, outdoor recreation or camping, youth services, or crisis intervention.
- Minimum of two years of experience supporting and training front-line staff or volunteers in child abuse prevention, self-harm, mental health, bullying, behavior management, and accessibility
- Knowledge of relevant child protection legislation and best practices in safeguarding youth.
- Strong ability to assess, analyze, and provide expert guidance on girl protection matters.
- Proven ability to coach Adult Members in behavior and group management strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, particularly in crisis situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and external agencies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Office 365) and digital communication tools.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Assets include:
- Training or certification in child protection, crisis intervention, or safeguarding practices is an asset.
- Training or certification in mental health first aid is an asset.
Hiring Range: $60,000 to 70,800/ Annually
*Salary will be based on scale and complexity of operations within the region.
