Job description

This position is 100% remote.

What are we looking for?

CobbleWeb, a leading developer of custom online marketplaces, is looking for an ambitious mid-career Product Manager, who would like to grow their skill-set and expertise by working on more complex and challenging e-commerce projects. We expect you to have previous hands-on experience as a frontend engineer or UX designer - this requirement is a must.

This role is a good fit for someone who can balance previous methodologies and insights with new ways of working. A capacity and willingness to adapt means that you will be adept at learning from delegated tasks and feedback, supported by some coaching on the more complex marketplace-related aspects.

As a critical lynchpin you are skilled at cross-functional collaboration. In conjunction with clients and technical teams, you enjoy designing optimal solutions by analysing, discussing, and aligning business goals with product specifications that are technically feasible and user-friendly.

You are a curious leader who interrogates all aspects of the product development process to identify potential improvements or resolve potential conflicts. You believe that information-sharing is a valuable tool for teams to shape best-in-class solutions.

If this is you, CobbleWeb may be a good fit:

  • An independent and profitable business that is doubling in size.
  • More than 12 years of experience in designing, building, and optimising high-growth online marketplaces.
  • Technically complex projects often present unique business challenges that need solving.
  • A distributed company, headquartered in London, UK, with a strong documentation and iteration culture that supports remote team members based in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Caucasus region.
  • We take full ownership of marketplace projects in close collaboration with our clients. We’re a close-knit in-house team who love working together. We don’t outsource core functions.
  • Work-life balance
  • Team support
  • Career development
  • Job fulfilment
  • Innovative projects

Responsibilities

Discovery and Planning Phase:

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business goals and user expectations.
  • Advocate for a lean approach, driving principles such as formulating and testing assumptions, shipping often, and incorporating user feedback.
  • Gain client buy-in through effective use of written documents, user flow diagrams, wireframes, and design mockups.
  • Evaluate and propose best-in-class solutions, understanding the pros and cons of different approaches.
  • Document and update functional specifications based on feedback and contributions from team members.

Development Phase

  • Maintain a healthy product backlog, prioritising tasks based on factors such as budget, return on investment, and product-market fit.
  • Monitor project budgets, identifying potential overspending and recommending adjustments to scope or specifications.
  • Ensure development aligns with documented specifications and assist the testing team with test case preparation.
  • Own the software development life cycle, ensuring well-planned and executed sprints that align with project goals.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant role.
  • Background and previous hands-on experience as a frontend engineer or UX designer is a must.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. computer science, information technology, or business degree).
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience in managing and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with diagramming, and project management tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence).
  • Familiarity with Agile principles, Lean startup methodology, and the platform economy.
  • Proven experience in the design and documentation of user journeys that consider user personas and key touchpoints in order to accomplish business goals (e.g. The buying funnel could entail selecting, comparing, ordering and paying for an item.)
  • Proven ability to deliver projects within meticulously planned scopes, budgets and time frames, manage risk and avoid bottlenecks.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Your Mindset & Approach

  • User-centric and business-goal focussed.
  • A big-picture thinker who doesn’t lose sight of the details.
  • Highly organised, thorough, analytical, and deadline-focussed.
  • Consistent in your execution of tasks.
  • Uphold high levels of productivity by not reinventing the wheel.
