Business Analyst

The Business Analyst will function as an interface between business owners and IT project teams to identify business requirements and translate these into functional design specifications. Project Management skills are required as sometimes required to play both BA and PM roles on smaller projects.

Essential Duties

• Proficient in documenting requirements, writing use cases, and creating functional design specifications.  Work with IT development teams and other departments to gather requirements for the development of applications and projects.
• Experience gathering and documenting system requirements.  Gain sufficient understanding of various IT applications to translate business requirements into functional design specifications.
• Contribute to project teams including assistance with overall analysis, project forecasting, logical testing, identifying and managing project risks, quality assurance, launch support, and post launch support as needed.
• Ongoing documentation and investigation of production support issues.
• Serve as a conduit of information on IT infrastructure, capabilities, limitations, systems to other departments with Strategic Education Inc. (SEI).
• Participate in business process enhancement meetings.
• Provide Project Management for small to medium sized projects. This includes preparing project plans, managing issue and risk logs and mitigation strategies, preparing budgets, facilitating status meetings, managing project resources, and preparing and auditing any necessary documentation.
• Excellent ability to organize information, manage tasks and use available tools to effectively contribute to an organization.
• Excellent problem-solving skills – able to focus both on the big picture and finite details. Proficient in data filtering and presentation.

Job Skills

• Previous experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions preferred, ideally Student Financials experience.
• Comfortable working with diverse teams.
• Comfortable working within the parameters of waterfall and agile project methodologies.
• Working knowledge of business analysis concepts, tools, and techniques.
• Working knowledge of project management concepts, tools, and techniques.
• Proven ability to practice a variety of techniques to ensure complete requirements.
• Previous development experience in SQL preferred.
• Proficient in gathering, documenting and communicating business requirements to business and technical resources.
• Experience gathering and documenting system requirements.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.
• Excellent ability to organize information, manage tasks and projects and use available tools to effectively contribute to organization.
• Capable and comfortable multi-tasking between concurrent projects.
• Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required. The ability to express oneself effectively within groups and in one-to-one conversations. Conveys information clearly and effectively through both formal and informal documents. Creates an atmosphere in which timely and high-quality input/out flows smoothly between self and others.
• Previous project management experience managing small to medium sized projects.

Work Experience

• 3+ years in a business analyst role.

Education

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, (Preferably business or information technology)

Other

• Ability to work at a computer up to 8 hours a day.
• Must be able to travel 0-10% of the time.
• Must be able to lift 20lbs.
• Typical office setting.
• Mobility within the office includes movement from floor to floor.
• Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
• Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant
• Access information using a computer.
• Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
• Effectively cope with stressful situations.
• Strong mental acuity.
• Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
• Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification.
