The job
This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to join and shape Tiko’s growth in the coming years. The Chief Programme Officer is ultimately responsible for delivering impact across our operational markets. You lead all areas of our organisation that implement our programmes on the ground, as well as a number of strategic initiatives that aim to ensure we keep evolving our operations into the future. You are part of the C-suite, reporting to the Executive Director and you operate globally.
Responsibility areas and deliverables
- Lead on ensuring Tiko maintains an integrated, AGYW- centric delivery ecosystem that provides critical services to target the Triple Threat of unwanted pregnancies, new HIV infections and SGBV
- Sustainably scale our impact in our core markets, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia and Burkina Faso from 1 million services today to 5 million girls impacted annually by 2030.
- Consolidate and scale our community and health systems strengthening efforts in all our operating markets
- Deliver on monthly, quarterly and annual impact goals in our markets.
- Ensure our ecosystems deliver more value through robust data driven performance management and a lean operating model, keeping a cost effective cost per service/cost per user
- Drive necessary delivery system/design changes to improve effectiveness and sustainability of our offers.
- Be a transformational and visionary leader that provides clear and actionable leadership to your department and the wider organisation. Your teams will include all Country Operations, Marketing, Technical Services, Programmes and Innovation.
- Give guidance and provide strategic oversight and linkages for partnerships with public and private partners.
- Shape government co-financing and co-implementation opportunities for relevant countries and oversight their operationalization.
- Use (Tiko) data for data-driven insights to continuously improve impact.
- Provide the strategic oversight and guidance that ensures your teams are equipped and enabled to thrive in a complex network organisation that marries tech and NGO.
- Collaborate with the NBD team to develop proposals and ensure future funding for the organisation.
- Strategically budget and decide on staffing and fund allocation to optimise impact and quality across markets.
- Be a key member of the C-suite of Tiko, which requires strategic thinking, hands-on implementation and seamless partnerships across the executive team and the organisation.

Requirements
- Masters degree.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership operational role.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience operating in a similar context. NGO, public healthcare or other relevant experience in the private sector in our priority markets will be a plus.
- Substantive knowledge and experience in 2 or more of Tikos key intervention areas for AGYW (FP, HIV ,SGBV, Mental Health or Menstrual Hygiene)
- Experience in successful shaping government co-financing initiatives
- Experience overseeing operations in multiple countries across Africa.
- Extensive experience working in a complex, results focused environment.
- Proven responsibility of having final responsibility over 8-12 million dollar budgets annually.
- Experience leading teams within a regional or global capacity, in a matrix, mostly remote and fast paced environment.
- Experience in representing an organisation to the public and funders
- You are based in and eligible to work in one of Tiko’s operational markets. We will not relocate candidates or provide for work permits.
- Open to travel within the continent - at least 25% of time spent travelling will be required.
The rewards
At Tiko we believe in being open, also when it comes to salaries. The gross monthly salary bracket for this position is R145,932 - R218,899 in South Africa, Ksh1,200,862 - Ksh1,801,293 in Kenya, €8,922 - €13,383 in Ethiopia, CFA3,227,881 -CFA4,841,822 in Burkina Faso, UGX35,986,448 - UGX53,979,672 in Uganda, and ZMW288,808 - ZMW433,212 in Zambia, plus benefits. We will offer you a salary in this bracket depending on your level of experience and how it relates to your future colleagues.
