DoD SkillBridge Internship: KCL Engineering Residency Design Internship Program

SkillBridge Provider: Vets2PM LLC
Location: Remote (but have a willingness to travel to a KCL Engineering site on occasion for hands on training or job site experience.

( Alternate locations : Des Moines, IA; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; Oklahoma City, OK; Atlanta, GA)

Are you a transitioning service member looking for a career in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), Fire Protection, Lighting, or Technology design? The KCL Engineering Residency Design Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on training and industry experience to help you launch a career in engineering consulting.

There is a possibility of earning a job offer at the location of your internship with KCL Engineering, at one of KCL Engineering's other locations (listed on this posting), or with an affiliate company, for one of the following positions. A potential job offer will be dependent on internship success, Design Engineer level at the conclusion of the internship, and job availability. Possible designation/levels are:

Design Engineer I
Design Engineer II
Design Engineer III
Design Engineer IV

Program Overview
This 90-day internship offers structured training similar to what college engineering interns receive, equipping you with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in MEP consulting. The program is based primarily at KCL Engineering’s office locations, with the possibility of partial remote participation. (
To be considered for a remote/partial remote internship you should have solid experience that is relevant to this internship and have a willingness to travel to a KCL Engineering site on occasion for hands on training or job site experience.)

A key focus of this program is learning and mastering REVIT, the industry-standard software for MEP design. REVIT will serve as the foundation for all training, project work, and evaluations throughout the internship.

Interns will also gain exposure to other critical aspects of engineering consulting, including:

  • Code research
  • Reviewing shop drawings
  • Coordinating with project teams
  • Construction site visits
  • Reviewing and updating project specifications
What You’ll Learn
  • Fundamentals of Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, Lighting, and Technology design
  • Hands-on training in REVIT, including modeling, system design, and documentation
  • Exposure to real-world construction projects
  • Collaboration with experienced engineers and industry professionals
  • Practical application of technical skills in MEP design
  • Engineering consulting workflows, including code research, submittal reviews, and construction coordination
Candidate Requirements
  • Transitioning service member with an interest in construction, design engineering and technical problem-solving
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn
  • Commitment to learning REVIT as the primary tool for MEP design
  • Ability to complete written and practical evaluations at the end of the program

Not all internships include certification training by Vets2PM, as many host companies include their own internship-focused training instead. If selected for an internship with Vets2PM please read your approval email, letter, and training plan to be sure you understand what is included in your internship.
