Job Summary:
Responsible for the comprehensive and strategic oversight of quality, compliance, and medication safety activities. The director will foster cross-functional and system-wide relationships beyond the Pharmacy department. Actively collaborates in developing, implementing, and growing pharmacy quality, compliance, and medication safety initiatives. The director plans and coordinates a comprehensive program to improve clinical outcomes, reduce organizational risk, and minimize patient harm.
Job Duties:
- Works with the System Director, Operations and Compliance to coordinate outcomes review and department projects as assigned to meet regulatory standards (i.e. The Joint Commission, Department of Health) as well as system and departmental projects and initiatives.
- Assists Enterprise Pharmacy leadership with major survey preparation (i.e., Joint Commission, DOH Licensure, URAC etc.) and assists in the development of plans of correction, implementation strategies, and continuing oversight.
- Leads the coordination and facilitation of Performance Improvement programs within Enterprise Pharmacy across the system, including but not limited to, monitoring statistical analysis and reporting and developing action plans.
- Identifies trends for actual or potential Quality and Safety improvement opportunities based upon review and analysis of information/data and participates in the design and implementation of improvement/change.
- Oversees the development, revision, and auditing of departmental policies and operational procedures related to compliance, accreditation, and performance improvement processes
- Develops and revises the Enterprise Pharmacy Corporate Compliance Plan in conjunction with the System Ancillary Department Billing and General Compliance Committee
- Accountable for creating and maintaining standards, operational activities, and performance measurement tools that meet operational and market needs in the areas of quality improvement, compliance, and medication safety.
- Coordinates the Enterprise Pharmacy medication safety plan with health system patient safety committees to create and maintain safe medication management within the pharmacy and other ancillary departments.
- Lead process improvement efforts designed to reduce medication errors, improve patient safety and infuse best medication- use practices throughout the system.
- Oversees adverse drug reaction reporting activities
- Assists management staff in the implementation and administration of medication safety initiatives.
- Serves as the chair of the Medication Safety Subcommittees.
- Regularly reviews sources of new/revised medication safety guidelines and determines applicability to the system and each entity, develops policies to ensure compliance, and educates stakeholders on the corporate and entity levels of changes implemented.
- Designs and provides formal and informal education to leadership and various department staffs.
- Manages data reporting and information related to all aspects of quality and medication safety.
