Job description

As a leader in cryptocurrency payments, we are seeking a Compliance Manager with strong leadership skills to ensure that our operations align with both internal and external regulatory requirements. This role involves mitigating risks, driving the development of compliance policies, and contributing to the company's continued growth. As a key leader, you will also mentor and inspire a team of compliance analysts to uphold BitPay’s commitment to compliance and excellence in the cryptocurrency industry. This position is remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the United States while collaborating with our global team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and enforce Compliance Policies and Procedures to address internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular compliance monitoring and testing to assess adherence to laws and regulations, generating detailed reports on findings.
  • Track progress and ensure timely resolution of regulatory concerns through corrective action plans.
  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and programs to maintain compliance with industry best practices and evolving regulations.
  • Assist in regulatory examinations and audits, representing BitPay as needed.
  • Provide compliance guidance across teams, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor a team of compliance analysts, overseeing merchant onboarding and transaction monitoring initiatives.
  • Support the sales team in onboarding complex merchant types.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with U.S. banking partners for merchant transactions, approvals, and due diligence requests.
  • Ensure timely submission of requested documentation for partner due diligence.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on banking relationships and settlement issues.
  • Oversee the online training program, ensuring proper vetting and distribution of coursework.
  • Coordinate with Info Security on vendor screenings and employee system access terminations.
  • Assist in reviewing and submitting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices to proactively manage compliance risks.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in Compliance, preferably in the crypto industry, with at least 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Background in Banking, Money Services Business (MSB), Global Payments, or AML Compliance Risk.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop team members.
  • High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and the ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills to communicate complex compliance concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, or a related field.
  • CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) is required.
