Job description

About Census 🔁

Census is a unified data platform built on your cloud data warehouse. With Census, data teams at companies like Canva, Figma, and Rippling can sync data across 200+ business apps using our Reverse ETL. Ultimately we empower every company to build better workflow automation.

Backed by a16z , Sequoia, Tiger Global & Insight; we're a hybrid team headquartered in San Francisco that loves taking annoying problems most people avoid and building elegant solutions for them. We believe that data should be used for more than just making charts. This is why we invented integrations that work directly from cloud data warehouses.

🫡 The Mission

We're looking for the newest member of our Solutions Engineering team. You'll be a vital bridge between the front lines (working directly with prospects and clients) and the sales, product, and engineering teams, collaborating to relay critical feedback that shapes our product roadmap. You’ll provide technical guidance, solution design, and thought leadership to help companies maximize their data warehouse investments - ensuring the highest quality data is delivered to the right places, at the right time and cadence.

You will also be an educator and architect alongside our Sales team. From demos to workshops, playbooks, and sales enablement, you will teach organizations about Census’s value.

🦩 About The Team

Join a team that’s not just hardworking and curious but also close-knit and supportive. We tackle big challenges together and always have each other’s backs. We love sharing what we learn - both within the team and with the broader community. And when we’re not solving problems, teaching, or empowering others, you’ll find us chatting about ways to improve the product, swapping ideas about our favorite shows, or trading recommendations for the latest must-hear podcasts. We may be small, but we’re a mighty team that’s all about collaboration and connection!

🧑🏽‍💻 What You Do
  • Partner with Customer Account Managers to give customers’ data and operational teams access to deep technical knowledge about Census and the broader data ecosystem.

  • Teach customers the “art of the possible” with Census, demonstrating use cases and best practices.

  • Take ownership of the customer’s implementation and challenges. Ensure that all technical issues, questions, and post-sales product concerns are clearly resolved.

  • Assist with prospect POCs, answering questions and helping prospect be successful with Census.

  • Collaborate as the technical liaison between Census account management and engineering teams.

  • Engage with product and engineering teams on the roadmap, sharing customer feedback and advocating for customer feature requests.

  • Ensure customers successfully implement and use Census.

  • Codify and share how-to’s in our documentation and internal knowledge base.

  • Mentor other Solutions Engineers, help onboard new team members, and build the team’s capabilities over time.

🎯  What We’re Looking For
  • Senior Solutions Engineer experience - 4+ years experience in a solutions engineering or architect role working with technical products, particularly with enterprise customers. Alternatively, 6+ years working as an enterprise data leader with a strong desire to engage with prospects.

  • Customer empathy - Ability to understand customer needs, clearly communicate tradeoffs (written and verbal), influence technical audiences, and translate that into technical solutions. Experience consulting with data and operations teams (marketing, customer success, sales, product, or finance), helping them overcome challenges with their data and pipelines.

  • Technical background - Experience with data warehousing, analytics engineering, and sales/marketing/revenue operations data. Proficiency in SQL and knowledge of database best practices and troubleshooting. Nice-to-haves: integration, orchestration, working with APIs, and/or Customer Data Platforms.

  • Self-motivation – Desire to act as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) in a startup environment without the structure of big companies. Proven ability to problem-solve your way through issues with the team.

  • Curiosity – Interest in learning and exploring, experimenting, and teaching others.

Hybrid or Remote

  • Report to our New York office at least three days per week if in the NYC Metro area.
