Title: Freelance Weekend Commerce Editor

First Look - Freelance Weekend Commerce Editor


The Arena Group is seeking a Freelance Weekend Commerce Editor  to contribute to our weekend commerce content across our portfolio of brands, including The Street, Parade, and more. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating commerce content for a range of lifestyle topics, including apparel and accessories, wellness and beauty, home and garden and consumer electronics. Responsibilities will include pitching daily stories to the commerce editors, writing and editing new stories and updating and optimizing evergreen content. The ideal candidate has experience writing and editing commerce content in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, including news and trends pieces as well as long-form evergreen roundups. 


This is a freelance position with competitive hourly rates commensurate with experience. Our expected hourly pay rate is $30 - 40 USD per hour. Minimum availability required is from Thursday through Sunday.

What You’ll Do:

  • Pitch and schedule stories to the commerce editorial team

  • Write 3+ commerce stories a day with the ability to pivot quickly if a more pressing priority arises

  • Edit 3+ commerce stories a day, with an ability to coordinate publishing and update cadence with the commerce editorial team

  • Monitor daily news cycle and flag commerce opportunities

  • Update and optimize existing stories with fresh info to keep commerce content up-to-date and useful for readers

  • Work closely with team members on tentpole events like Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday

  • Build articles in the CMS cleanly and with commerce best practices in mind



What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience writing high-quality commerce content that delivers service and value to readers 

  • Knowledge of digital content best practices, like SEO, AP Style, and analytics 

  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills

  • A strong ability to self-manage and prioritize 

  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a comfort level in providing constructive editorial feedback to peers

  • Ability to write fast, without compromising accuracy, brand integrity, or voice

  • A sense of fun, urgency, and a can-do attitude

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism/related field or a portfolio of published work
