What You’ll Be Doing:
Bixal is seeking a Generalist/Full Stack Engineer to support the Secure, Performant, Reliable, and User-Centered Experiences (SPRUCE) contract. This role will play a key part in developing and maintaining veteran-facing web applications, ensuring accessibility, scalability, and security while improving digital experiences for Veterans and their families.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of up to one year, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain full-stack web applications supporting VA.gov’s facilities and public website. Build and optimize React-based front-end components and integrate with Drupal-powered backends. Develop and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs for seamless data exchange. Support cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to enhance system performance and deployment efficiency. Implement and maintain accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA) to ensure compliance. Collaborate with UX researchers, designers, and content teams to create intuitive digital experiences. Participate in Agile sprints, code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing.Other relevant duties for which you are qualified and trained QualificationsBachelor's degree in a relevant field, plus at least four (4) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in full-stack development with modern web technologies. Proficiency in React, Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js. Experience working with Drupal, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, or similar technologies. Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines. Strong understanding of web security best practices and performance optimization. Experience working in Agile development environments with cross-functional teams. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance Nice to HavesExperience with federal digital services, civic tech, or government projects. Familiarity with Next.js, Metalsmith, or other VA.gov technologies. Experience with DevOps practices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
